This Field based Sales Specialists will apply his/her knowledge of systems, selling, products and capabilities to build the business foundation for achieving and exceeding established Sales Goals.
The position requires professional level sales and business development skills in providing customer application solutions, involving specific SIAL products, equipment and services. This includes responsibility for field sales activities at identified accounts and sales growth within these accounts. Activities will involve working with members Sales Team, SIAL Territory Sales Managers, National Account Managers, Brand Managers, and other Brand-specific staff to achieve established goals and objectives. Field Application Specialists are expected to serve as role models for Sales Specialists and other Sales Specialists in National and country roles. Extensive domestic overnight travel is required.

'Developing and managing on-site stock logistics for customers with corresponding SIAL products, equipment and services, based on specific application solution(s).
'Performs sales activities to meet or exceed sales goals.
'Fulfill customer's needs by suggesting transactional product placement to fulfill needs.
'Represent the corresponding areas of the SIAL Sales Team and products during account vendor shows and regional trade shows.

'Responsible for driving adoption and market penetration of SIAL Research Biotechnology's Best-in-Class/Innovative technologies and products.

'Build relationships with Opinion Leaders and Early Adopters in academia and industry to promote market penetration, retention and loyalty

'Devise and implement successful strategies that support increased sales and the strategic goals of the RB Business Unit
'Team with RB Biotechnology Specialists, RB Sales Development and sales from other Business Units to identify, develop and close opportunities
'Provide consultative technical support to identify and mitigate competitive barriers to increase sales and identify opportunities for product improvement/development
'Partner with Marketing and Sales Development to serve as the internal 'voice of the customer', develop consultative selling tools/strategies, and identify new product development opportunities.
'Submit monthly sales activity reports
Minimum Requirements include:
'Education level (or equivalent) normally completed through a BS/BA degree in Science.
'Knowledge and skills typically acquired through the acquisition of an advanced degree in the Life Sciences (such as Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, or closely related science).
'Minimum five (5) years of related field applications, technical sales or marketing experience.
' Thorough product knowledge of applications and related products.
'Excellent interpersonal/customer relations, verbal and written communication skills
'Experience in reagent and/or technology platform sales is a strong plus
'Experience in sales and/or territory management is a plus
'In-depth knowledge within area applicable to the Industry Type and Applications Area(s) corresponding to the sales role.
'Ability to influence/persuade others and gain acceptance/approval of controversial or innovative ideas and concepts.
'Ability to implement strategic and tactical plans.
' Good negotiation, project management, organizational, prioritization and planning skills.
'Basic computer skills, ability to work under minimal supervision.
'Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
'Ability and willingness to travel up to 25% of the work week. (Territory covers the West Coast, based preferably out of San Francisco)
Biotechnology: Essential and Critical Skills:
'Critical: Knowledge of the Gene Expression and/or Functional Genomics, and/or Proteomics and/or Cell-based Assay related market is a must. Experience (either practical or sales) in any of these areas is a strong plus.

ADDITIONAL LOCAL NEEDS:
Work Environment: Regular travel by car or plane. Occasional presence in
laboratory where hazardous chemicals may be used/in use.
Field Applications Sales Specialist works from home office with travel from home office occurring approximately up to 25% domestic U.S. travel.
Physical Requirements: Ability to travel by car and plane on a regular basis.
Ability to operate laptop from the field and use cell phone. Ability to move
around customer sites as needed. Light/medium lifting at times.
