Perform materials testing, analysis, and report creation required to support FME engineering, manufacturing, quality, and customers.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Set up and conduct tension and compression tests on machined specimens, fasteners, and tubing using a universal testing machine.
  • Set up and conduct hardness tests using stationary and portable Brinell, stationary and portable Rockwell, portable Equotip, portable microdur, stationary Vickers microhardness, and durometers.
  • Section, mount, grind, and polish samples for microscopic inspection.
  • Inspect and analyze components using microscope equipment.
  • Material characterization (grade, heat treatment, cold/hot working, etc.) through microscopy.
  • Conduct chemistry tests using an optical emission spectrometer.
  • Assist in failure investigations.
  • Review wet and dry magnetic particle inspection as well as dye penetrant inspection results.
  • Determine if materials conform to applicable specifications such as SAE, ANSI, ASTM, AWS, etc.
  • Prepare documentation and technical reports on testing performed.
  • Perform maintenance and minor repairs of lab equipment.

Required Skills
  • Must be willing to learn.
  • Major in Materials Science & Engineering or very similar field strongly preferred.
  • High level of organizational and verbal/written communication skills is required.
  • Must be able to use/learn highly specific computer software for laboratory equipment.
  • Must be proficient in use of Microsoft Office.
Required Experience
  • Junior status with at least one year completed in the college of engineering (two years completed in the college of engineering preferred).
  • Major in Materials Science & Engineering or very similar field strongly preferred.
