Summary of position: Focus on social, recreational, and behavioral needs of children. Ensure that the physical and emotional needs of children are being met on a daily basis. Act as a member of treatments team in a school program for children with serious emotional and behavioral difficulties. To assist other pods as directed. Committed to child centered, family focused culturally competent care and strength based treatment. Must have valid U.S. driver’s license and ability to transport children into the community.

Essential functions:

1.Work as a key member of a team to further the emotional, behavioral, and educational development of children at Walker.
2.Provide a safe and therapeutic environment for children.
3.Assist a wake-up team in the residential program and ensure that medications are administered, routines are completed, and students arrive to school on time.
4.Assist a daytime residential group during the school vacation periods. Planning developmentally appropriate activities and programming for the group and campus wide.
5.Plan and implement social and recreational activities for children.
6.Participate in social and recreational activities with children.
7.Ensure that B.M.T.A. is being applied in the day program, and lead or co-lead P.A. based activity groups.
8.Support teachers and assistant teachers by assisting individual students with academics.
9.Meet children’s physical needs.
10.Implement treatment protocol established in children’s treatment plans, IEPs, and individual crisis management plans.
11.Apply Walker’s model of childcare, including project adventure methods, therapeutic crisis intervention methods, and physical restraint, as necessary.
12.Directly supervise children in the school program and during residential wake-ups, as assigned..
13.Properly attend to administrative functions of childcare, including attending required meetings; completing assigned oral and written report writing tasks; and actively participating in supervision and professional development opportunities offered at Walker.
14.Follow and implement all Walker policies and procedures.
15.Other duties as assigned.

Preferred Functions:

1.Administer medication in accordance with Walker’s policies and procedures.
2.Transport students to activities in vehicles in accordance with Walker’s policies and procedures.
