This position is located in the Collaborative Clinical Research Branch (CCRB) of the Division of Clinical Reasearch (DCR), which plays an integral role in facilitating the efficient and effective performance of NAID research programs on both the domestic and international levels. The mission of CCRB is to conduct, oversee, and manage directed collaborative high priority translational and clinical research in infectious diseases to advance the mission of the NIAID.

- Provide international research assistance and support to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
- Provide scientific guidance to the overall program to ensure successful performance of contract requirements
- Assist in the development of clinical Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

Degree: Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy from a school in the United States or Canada approved by a recognized accrediting body in the year of the applicant's graduation. [A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school that provided education and medical knowledge substantially equivalent to accredited schools in the United States may be demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) (or a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed pre-medical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country).]
Graduate Training: Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy degree, a candidate must have had at least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program in an institution accredited for such training. (This 1 year of supervised experience may be waived for research or administrative positions not requiring direct patient care.) For purposes of this standard, graduate training programs include only those internship, residency, and fellowship programs that are approved by accrediting bodies recognized within the United States or Canada. Listings of accredited programs are published yearly in the Directory of Residency Training Programs and the Yearbook and Directory of Osteopathic Physicians.
To Qualify at the GS-15 Grade Level:
In order to qualify at the GS-15 level, the applicant must possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-14). Examples of Specialized experience include: providing leadership in the planning, directing and coordination of biomedical clinical research programs and activities, including administrative, regulatory and scientific matters; managing and evaluating research projects that are broad and complex in scope and require unconventional approaches or complex research techniques; establishing goals and objectives for assigned research area, and coordinating efforts to facilitate the resolution of critical issues involving accomplishment of the research; reviewing research data and progress reports, and implementing corrective actions needed to achieve established research goals and objectives; making recommendations to senior personnel for facilitating new research efforts, clinical studies, clinical trials, or other initiatives required to meet program needs; and planning and arranging national or regional seminars and symposia leading to the more rapid dissemination of scientific data.
Licensure: For positions involving patient care, candidates must have a permanent, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Applications will be accepted from physicians who are not currently licensed; however, if selected for appointment, they must (a) obtain a license before entering on duty, or (b) meet one of the following provisions:
Board eligible or board certified in Internal Medicine or Infectious Diseases is preferred but not required.
- Waiver of Licensure Requirement: An agency may waive the licensure requirement for positions not involving direct patient care, e.g., positions performing disability evaluations, positions performing solely research, or administrative program managers. If the agency does not waive the license requirement for these kinds of positions, candidates may be appointed subject to obtaining a license within 1 year.
- Appointments Pending Meeting Licensure Requirement: Individual circumstances may warrant appointments pending meeting the licensure requirement (e.g., when a candidate has a temporary license to practice until the next regular session of the licensing board). Persons appointed pending licensure may not be retained beyond 1 year of appointment if they do not obtain the license.

Physicians Comparability Allowance of up to $30,000 per annum may be paid based on the selected physicians assignment, qualifications, experience, and duration of a negotiated service agreement.
