What You'll Do
John Deere Seeding Division in Valley City, ND is seeking an OFP Manufacturing Engineer to plan, coordinate and perform Manufacturing Engineering activities for continuous improvement in our production lines and assist with manufacturing design on new product programs. Within this position, you will:
Use computer aided design, process planning and facility planning tools to develop manufacturing process and facility plans. This includes developing product synchronization charts, graphical sequence of events, creating logical line designs, establishing work methods, time standards and material handling methods.
Concept tool and fixture designs including sourcing designs and builds with external service providers.
Conduct PFMEA's and design process controls for mistake proofing.
Develop work instructions and decision support methods, create line balances and detailed physical layouts and 3D manufacturing process layouts.
Use simulation and analysis techniques to validate and verify process and facility plans and provide analysis reports.
Conduct Virtual Build events with a cross functional team to virtually build the product and identify issues and resolve problems to reduce overall project or program risk related to manufacturing; highlight design for manufacturing and design for assembly improvements.
Work with Operations and Order Fulfillment manufacturing personnel to begin limited production builds and help with ramping up to full production, ensuring necessary production rates, process capability and productivity requirements are met.
What It Takes
We need an excellent communicator, who thrives on solving problems and working in a team environment. Ideally, you will have a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Ag Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or Industrial Engineering or equivalent experience. In addition, we require:
Ability to champion and improve overall product flow and line design within the factory, working through and directing projects from start to finish.
Proficiency in Computer Aided Design (CAD) concepts and Computer Aided Process Planning concepts.
Knowledge of drawing and schematic interpretation, product models, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
Knowledge of Tooling and Tooling Design.
Ability to develop assembly methods and set up labor standards.
Ability to apply lean manufacturing concepts and tools to eliminate waste.
Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally (Russia) up to 25%.
A strong candidate will also have:
A wide range of experience with welding, painting, and assembly processes.
Knowledge of quality tools (PFMEA/control plans/KC control/SPC).
Knowledge of mistake proofing and DFMA.
Agricultural background & mechanical ability.
