The utility position performs a variety of cleaning, maintenance, food preparation, stocking, and serving duties in a commercial kitchen, storeroom, dining, or serving area. This is a customer service oriented position.(FT)(PT)(OC)(TEMP) positions may be available.

(Ideal applicant will either live in or be able to interview in Anchorage, AK.)


Cleans dishes, utensils, pots, pans, etc. and places in assigned storage areas in an organized and orderly manner.

Cleans, sweeps, wipes down, etc. all general dining, kitchen, or storage areas (in some cases), spike rooms, and equipment as well as all floors.

Deliver and/or pick-up trays or snacks.

May assist in the serving line for clients.

Assists cooks and others as needed.

Coordinates personal duties as required by the overall food service operations.

Delivers and sets up all local catering services as requested on an order complete with beverages, plates, napkins, appropriate utensils, etc.

Maintains a variety of products at certain levels in preparation, serving, or storage areas including service machines.

Restocks salad or soup station during service as is needed.

Stocks storage areas with various products.

Washes objects by hand or with cleaning equipment.

Cleans dishes, utensils, pots, pans etc. and places in assigned storage areas in a an organized and orderly manner.

Cleans, sweeps, wipes down, etc. all general dining, kitchen, or storage areas (in some cases), spike rooms, and equipment as well as all floors.

Vacuums food service areas periodically or as requested.

Removes garbage from assigned areas, sets up or breaks down tables, snack bars, display cases, serving lines. Etc.

Assists with various periodically scheduled large cleaning projects.

May occasionally prepare food or cook vegetables, entrees, coffee, sauces, meats, etc.

Other related duties may also be assigned.

May also be referred to as a Night or Day Kitchen Helper, Etc.

May also be occasionally referred to as a Dishwasher or Cleaner.

May also be combined with other position duties such as a Sandwich Maker or Pantry.

May also combined with other descriptions such a Lead, Night Supervisor, roving, etc.



The utility position requires a willingness to learn the position and to apply that knowledge as it relates to the position.

Must be able to pass a Pre-employment drug test, physical assessment and criminal background check.

Background position ranking skill levels:
Language skills sufficient to:
1. Read a limited number of 2 to 3 syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words or a series of numbers. 2. Effectively communicate with other employees.

Math skills sufficient to

add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide including using these operations with weight measurement, or volume.

Reasoning abilities sufficient to:
1. Apply common sense understanding to carry out simple 1 or 2 step instructions with only occasional or no variables. 2. Work effectively with other employees and supervisors.

Physical Demands:
The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee frequently is required to talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. Specific close vision is required. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to extreme cold non-weather and to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Must have the physical stamina to stand and wash hundreds of items at a time. Must have the stamina to work on 8 to 12 hour shifts for extended periods of time.
