McGraw-Hill Education is looking for a Professional Services Engineer for their Burr Ridge, IL location.
The Professional Services Engineer is the developer and architect for customer, prospect and partner specific applications, integrations, and customizations. In addition, the Professional Services Engineer serves as the technical expert for the level 2 support team to analyze, troubleshoot, debug, and resolve support cases that require code or database level expertise.
Lead the architecture definition, planning, documentation and execution of customer, prospect and partner integration framework and products.
Manage, interact and resolve highly complex issues with customers.
Interact and build relationship with the highest technical experts at customer institutions.
Work with other business units, including R&D, Support and Customer Care/Success, as required ensuring customer satisfaction goals are met.
Develop and maintain technical expertise in service functionality and use that expertise effectively to resolve support cases and develop creative solutions.
Provide weekend and off-hours support for critical issues.
Transfer knowledge and code responsibility for developed solutions to the relevant R&D teams for merging into the code product code base.
Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Computer Science.
At least 3 years experience in software development.
Proficiency in one or more of the following programming languages: C#, Java and C++.
At least 2 years experience in developing custom integration solutions.
Experience in troubleshooting complex software systems – this is needed in order to analyze and assess problems that customers may experience.
Must possess a solid knowledge of software systems design and architecture and be able to translate this into workable solutions.
Team player who must also be able to work independently both at remote sites and in the office, and be able to communicate extremely well at all levels of both corporate structure and customer hierarchy.
Must be able to learn new technologies and tools rapidly, and be able to leverage them within days of introduction to them.
Ability to travel on short notice to deal with customer or partner emergencies, should they arise.
Able to clearly document issues and solutions and communicate status and resolution.
Solid understanding and practical experience with:
Microsoft Windows Server, IIS, and Windows Media Servers
Networking protocols, firewalls, and Proxy servers. Using trace tools like Fiddler or Wireshark.
Development of MS SQL Server queries
XML-based data integration
Active Directory and LDAP user authentication integration
CAS, SAML and Shibboleth
Familiarity with Higher-Ed IT systems
Integrations, customizations and/or plugin development for open-source LMS like Moodle, Sakai and Canvas.
Installing and configuring a LAMP stack
Skilled in creating scripts (i.e., batch, JScript, CScript, Perl) and programming using C# and ASP.net.
Able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and work under time pressures.
