Information Technology Management: Responsible for planning, organizing, and controlling all aspects of the Press's information technology operations, including, but not limited to, metadata storage and dissemination, Press-wide database, programming, systems administration, web site administration, hardware administration, inventory administration, and technical support. Create, implement, and maintain procedures for all aspects of the press's information technology operations. Chair the press's Technology Task Force; set agenda and schedule regular meetings. Review all digital and technology related contract proposals to ensure Press staff have a clear and full understanding of electronic initiatives being proposed.
Metadata Management: Ensure that metadata for all frontlist and backlist titles are accurate and meet vendor specifications; submit timely and accurate ONIX feeds via FTP to CoreSource, Kentucky Scholarship Online, Amazon, Bowker, Baker & Taylor, Barnes and Noble, and Ingram. Analyze the Press's data distribution workflow to create, implement, and maintain procedures to efficiently update the Press's trading partners with metadata and electronic files for both electronic and print publications. Collaborate with and train internal staff from all departments of the Press in identifying efficient metadata workflows and solutions.
Programming: Design, develop and test new modules to upgrade the Allbooks database that fulfill future Press needs. Design, develop and test new modules to upgrade the Allbooks database that will allow for the migration of Press processes and data currently controlled by other software applications, such as Access. Prepare a modified Allbooks design that will efficiently function using new FileMaker fp12 file type.
Website, Hardware and Inventory Administration: Maintain the existing and as necessary create new php web pages for http://www.kentuckyPress.com/. Assist the Marketing Department with the maintenance of the htm web pages and the css file. Manage account access to the Kentucky Encyclopedia Web Edition (http://www.kyenc.com/ and http://kyenc.org/). Initiate yearly subscription renewals. Administer and maintain the Press' 24 PCs and 3 Macs following the University of Kentucky's Information Technology and The University Press of Kentucky policies. Administer the 3 Ricoh multi-function devices. Conduct the E-bars fixed asset inventory and the E-bars space inventory.
System Administration: Maintain file database and web servers following the University of Kentucky's Information Technology and The University Press of Kentucky policies. Research all server service packs, hotfixes, security patches and apply those deemed appropriate. Assign user rights appropriate to the users' job duties and responsibilities. Periodically monitor the system health using the Dell OpenManage application. Periodically review server logs for anomalies. Monitor server backups daily for successful completion and file failures. Communicate with the Active Directory (Users-University Press) and NEMO (gNemoUP) server administrators for the addition or removal of Press employee user names to the appropriate Active Directory Organizational Units. Assign University Press user names and computers to the appropriate folders in the University Press Organizational Unit.
Database Administration: Manage the FileMaker Allbooks database. Import the daily file received from HFS. Address the daily user requests and questions through technical training and assistance. Make code modifications as necessary to improve database efficiency and website integration.
Technical Support: Provide technical support and training to end users on software and hardware. Troubleshoot end user computing problems.
