Position Summary

The Neag School of Education at the University of Connecticut is soliciting applications for a Science Teacher Educator at the Assistant/Associate Professor level. This faculty member must be prepared to immediately undertake a key role in coordinating our Integrated Bachelors/Masters science teacher preparation program. We are interested in applicants with records of success working with pre-service science teachers and graduate students in science education while maintaining a research agenda of distinction. The ideal candidate is committed to issues of access and equity, translates such commitments into instructional practices, and makes these concerns central to his or her research.

Responsibilities include: Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses within teacher preparation; recruiting and mentoring doctoral candidates in science education; supervising graduate-level research projects in conjunction with teacher candidate internships; actively contributing to the advancement of teacher education within the Neag School; advancing an impactful research agenda of national/international importance; proactively meeting programmatic needs within secondary science teacher education; and developing proposals for external funding to support scholarly activities.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Doctorate with an emphasis in science education or related area; robust research agenda centering on science teacher education or related field; science classroom teaching experience in pre-college settings; evidence of quality delivery of pre-service education courses; and involvement with externally funded research projects.

Preferred Qualifications: Additional consideration will be given to candidates with: a) direct experiences in culturally and linguistically complex settings, b) diverse theoretical orientations and research methodologies, c) knowledge of national trends in science teacher education reform, d) success with aligning programs with external agency requirements, and e) background in course development, student advisement and in-service programming.

Appointment Terms

This is a nine-month, tenure track position with a start date of August 2013. Evaluation of applications will begin February 28, 2013. Preference will be given to applicants who apply by March 22, 2013.
