Designs and coordinates changes to databases.

Codes, tests, and implements physical database. Handles installations, upgrades, backups, and configuration. Confers with appropriate staff regarding problems with and capabilities of systems. .

Specific Responsibilities: Design logical and physical databases and review changes to design to understand how changes affect physical databases (data storage in terms of physical aspects such as location, amount of space, and access method.) Code database descriptions and specify identifiers of database-to-database management systems. Use tools to monitor database performance such as record distribution and amount of available memory. Perform performance tuning by modifying database programs to increase processing efficiency. Calculate optimum values for database parameters.

Configure and integrate databases with other information systems. Confer with colleagues to determine impact of database changes on other systems and labor cost for making changes to database. Work with vendors and database developers to correct recurring problems with applications and systems. Implement security procedures to ensure that databases remain protected.

Specify user access level for each segment of one or more data items such as insert, replace, retrieve, or delete data. Provide technical support to various departments and users with database problems in order to maximize database utilization. Review contracts for database support, services, and products. Research, evaluate, and recommend new databases.

Qualifications: BS in Computer Science, MIS or Software Engineering or equivalent 1 to 5 years of previous information systems experience in database administration Excellent organizational and communication skills Knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server 2008 stored procedures, security, replication, indexing, performance tuning, job scheduling, agents, backups, troubleshooting, and data modeling Knowledge of VB or C#, .Net technologies a plus Familiarity with current technology, trends, and best practices Normal office environment requiring ability to organize and prioritize workload, communicate effectively, sit for extended periods of time, use standard office equipment, and review and proof documents.
