Cargill Engineering R&D is one of Cargill's corporate research groups based in Minneapolis, USA and Vilvoorde, Belgium. This is a fast-paced, growing area within Cargill, and impacts the full range of Cargill's operations - from grain and oilseed processing to fermentation and novel food ingredients. Our scope includes projects from conception through process definition and plant start up to optimization of operating facilities for both Cargill and our customers. We have a diverse range of talents in Technology Project Management, Chemical Engineering Fundamentals and Engineering Numerical Analysis space. Within the Engineering Numerical Analysis space, we have expertise in process simulation, control and data visualization, optimization, computational fluid dynamics, statistics, numerical methods, and more.
We are currently looking for a thought leader who will develop and apply industry-leading modeling tools to drive and leverage innovation to Cargill’s many business units and to bring value in plant operations across Cargill. You will support the design, planning and execution of projects which will improve the profitability of the business through process modeling and optimization (improved operating cost, minimize capital or improved product functionality) and through improved process design (new product with a new process) while managing safety and/or environmental risks.
In this position, you will be required to build business cases for projects and programs in conjunction with project sponsors to evaluate and realize the value from new process improvement opportunities and may delegates technical work to others as appropriate. This position will need to communicate at multiple levels of organization to influence decisions at the business unit and Corporate level as well as present results to technical and non-technical audiences both within Cargill and to Cargill customers. This position will also contribute significantly to Cargill’s modeling strategy.
30% Technical Leadership in High Performance Innovation: Work with BU Operations team to develop highly complex process simulations that include the appropriate level of technical and economic detail to describe current operation. Apply these simulations to optimize the costs, quality, and capacity of the manufacturing process. Work will often require the development of innovative approaches to process simulation.
30% Technical Leadership in Customer Focused Innovation: Work with other Cargill scientists to develop possible flow sheets for a new product. Lead the development and approach to describe new processes in a computer simulation, combining uncertainty modeling as appropriate, to identify the best processes to develop further. Develop first principles models to characterize and predict fundamental thermodynamics and kinetics of novel systems.
20% Technical Leadership: Leads development and maintenance of CAL toolset, providing technical leadership, training, review and mentoring globally. Manages IP risks and vendor interactions. Manages and prioritizes development budget. Mentors and coaches others. Develops complex communications for training.
10% Project Management - Assure proper execution of complex, multidisciplinary projects through planning, resource allocation, milestone definition and budget management. Assure adequate resources are engaged to deliver technical success. Prepare or review detailed technical reports for the project team and the BU client.
10% Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned
Degree in Chemical Engineering or related engineering degree
Demonstrated experience with developing and applying advanced equation based modeling tools, such as Chemical Engineering simulation packages or programming skills in Fortran, Visual Basic or C.
Demonstrated ability to create novel approaches in process modeling to deploy solutions into Operations
Minimum of 10 years’ experience in process modeling or process development with increasing responsibilities
Ability to develop business cases and projects that bring significant value using process modeling concepts
Demonstrated experience in mentoring and coaching others
Demonstrated influencing skills
Demonstrated collaboration skills
Ability to communicate effectively to different audiences
Able to work with limited direct supervision.
Advanced degree (PhD or MS) in Chemical Engineering
2 or more years in supporting and optimizing manufacturing sites
Experience using Aspen suite of process modeling tools
Experience in other equation based modeling tools, such as computational fluid dynamics
Experience in intellectual property management
Experience in managing large data sets, database management
Experience in food industry
Project management skills
