ABOUT THE POSITION
The Warm Springs Natural Area, formerly known as the Warm Springs Ranch, is located in Moapa Valley approximately 7 miles northwest from the town of Moapa. The 1,218-acre property is regionally significant as it contains about twenty springs which form the headwaters of the Muddy River.
A Warms Springs Caretaker is responsible for monitoring and ensuring the security of Warm Springs properties, overseeing and performing maintenance on property grounds, roads and other facilities. Work is performed with a significant degree of independence and requires initiative and strong organization and observational skills. In addition, Caretaker is responsible for working with a team of biologists, ecologist, engineers, and planners. Caretaker will participate in biological and water quality monitoring and outreach activities that support the management goals of the Warm Springs Natural Area.
The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge of and professional experience preserving the Warm Springs Natural Area.
Two years of progressively responsible experience using tools and equipment similar to those used in the work of this class and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform duties with the required level of independence and initiative; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
KNOWLEDGE OF: Use and safe operation of hand and power tools and equipment applicable to assigned responsibilities; safety practices, safe work methods and safety regulations applicable to the work; basic grounds keeping methods and techniques; basic methods and techniques utilized in the building trades; and shop math.
ABILITY TO: Carry out observation and monitoring responsibilities with required vigilance and alertness to possible intruders; maintain vehicles and equipment in clean and proper working condition; understand and follow oral and written instructions; complete assigned duties independently without immediate supervision; exercise sound independent judgment and initiative in a variety of situations within established guidelines; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those encountered in the course of the work.
LICENSES; CERTIFICATES; SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: A valid Nevada drivers license and the ability to maintain insurability under the Districts Vehicle Insurance Policy. A valid Class A Nevada commercial drivers license and appropriate endorsements, or the ability to obtain such a license within six months of date of hire, may be required for certain assignments.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this class, an employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; sit; talk or hear; and occasionally to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee is frequently required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
