A Principal Maintenance Engineer is responsible for continuous improvement of equipment and processes by providing the maintenance group with floor support and troubleshooting on manufacturing and utility equipment. In addition the position is be responsible for managing replacement and improvement projects and achieving both budget and timeline requirements. Candidate must be comfortable working in a dynamic, hands-on, team based environment. This position requires the ability to coach, mentor and train individuals throughout the maintenance organizations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Develops User Requirement Specifications, Technical Specification and Design Specifications for replacement equipment or upgrades to existing equipment.
Authors and executes validation protocols to include Installation Qualifications, Operational Qualifications, Performance Qualifications, and Confirmation protocols for assigned projects
Troubleshoots PLC controls and automation related problems with manufacturing and facility systems
Performs process reviews and prepare technical reports detailing equipment operation, best practices and recommended changes and improvements.
Prepares documentation in support of capital projects and manage capital projects. Monitor and report project costs including capital and cross-functional expenses. Estimate cost affected by design and/or policy changes.
Leads PE project teams as needed to accomplish project objectives
Studies and recommends techniques to improve existing products/processes/utilities
Evaluates and recommends products and systems in key manufacturing and utilities technology areas
Identifies and implements process improvements in the architecture and/or infrastructure of existing systems
Prioritizes tasks to troubleshoot and resolve complex mechanical, electrical and controls problems.
Requires minimal direction, gives guidance to others, works on technical projects, and has advanced knowledge within area of functional responsibility.
Train, coach, mentor engineers, technicians and superintendents
Acts as the primary backup for the engineering/maintenance manager.
Bachelor degree in Engineering required, mechanical or electrical preferred.
Minimum 5 years experience in pharmaceutical engineering
Experience with PLC hardware and programming to include Allen Bradley and Siemens.
Thorough understanding of automation and control principles.
Familiarity with plant utility systems including but not limited to boilers, chillers, air compressors, clean steam systems, WFI systems and RO systems.
Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to use enterprise software, including: JDE, BPLM, Pilgrim, Trackwise, Maximo, etc.)
Physical / Safety Requirements:
Must be able to lift up to 50lbs.
Duties may require overtime work, including nights and weekends
Must be able to gown qualify for Grade A/B areas.
