To coordinate planning, implementation, and on-going quality control of institution-wide approaches to offender management in area of personal expertise based on the principles of evidence based practices. Operations and services are founded on the well-established, contemporary body of evidence-based practices for offender management that in addition to traditional security tools incorporates the following: effective communication; identifying offender criminal risks and substance abuse treatment needs; motivating offender change through case plan agreements, incentives and sanctions; and providing programming/services to address criminogenic needs.
Basic knowledge of the principles and techniques of rehabilitative counseling, casework and treatment methods, motivational interviewing and substance abuse, and various intervention techniques. Demonstrated ability to verbally resolve conflict, role model pro-social values and responsible behavior, to manage clinical boundaries and to evaluate and document offender treatment progress. Demonstrated ability to facilitate and coordinate activities and programs in a correctional setting. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Demonstrated ability to manage a specialized caseload while maintaining the Counselor's Code of Ethics.
Prefer graduation from an accredited college or university with course work in social work, rehabilitative counseling or other related human services field. Prefer Masters Degree in human services field. Prefer work experience with offenders in reentry, pre-release and/or cognitive community settings. Prefer working knowledge of the MATRIX model substance abuse program. Prefer professional certification as a state Certified Substance Abuse Counselor or ability to attain Certification within 2 years of hire.
