Bachelor's degree in computer science or in a related field and demonstrated experience in network design and support.
Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Must have thorough knowledge of Ethernet networks, security design, 802.11 wireless networks, audio, and video technologies. Thorough knowledge of the OSI Model. Thorough knowledge of firewalls, vulnerability assessment tools, penetration testing, routers, switches, access points, gateways, Debian GNU/Linux servers, and other network and video equipment. Thorough knowledge of telecommunications distribution design and cabling installation. Knowledge of AutoCAD and Visio. Proficient Project Management skills. Proficient analyst skills. Proficient communications skills (both written and oral). Ability to work well with others. Ability to plan, organize, and follow-through multiple projects simultaneously. Technology certifications desirable.
Additional Comments Regarding Position
Employee must be willing to work flexible hours including occasional nights, weekends, and holidays, be "on call" 24 hours a day and 7 days a week, for minimal support, and carry a cell phone. Overnight travel may be occasionally required for professional development. Must be able to climb and crawl into network locations including roofs, attics, and basements. Must be able to carry network equipment. Should be able to drive around campus and to remote sites.
