Energy, Transportation and Metals Analytics acts as the focus for fundamental analysis for Cargill Thermal Energy Supply Chain, Ocean Transportation (OT), Transportation Fuels, Petrochemicals and Metals businesses. Cargill Thermal Supply Chain in North America has determined the need for a North America Coal Analyst who will be responsible for building and maintaining economic models to support trading and investments decisions in the North America Coal markets. This position will be based in Minneapolis and will report to the Energy, Transportation, and Metals North America Analytics Lead. In addition, the coal analyst will have to work in close coordination with the TESC analytics team in North America as well as the global coal trading and analytics teams.
60% North America Coal Analysis
Provide aggregate marco as well as detailed regional supply and demand analysis for US coal market
Ensure consistency and integration/connectivity of the analysis with both North America energy complex (Power, Coal, Gas and Petroleum) as well as Global Coal.
Manage and develop new and existing supply/demand models to support trading decisions
Monitor fundamental factors affecting the US coal markets, such as regional and national production, consumption trends and imports/exports and incorporate into supply/demand outlook
Monitor freight line-ups and assess impact on global and US coal supply/demand models by acting as link with Ocean Transportation and Global Coal
40% Trading Support
Provide clear and timely delivery of focused information to support trading and investment decisions
Give clear guidance to the traders on ongoing changes to the supply/demand outlook
Work on the trading desk with North America Coal traders to help identify trading opportunities and develop trading strategies
Work with the business development team to identify and evaluate investment opportunities in the North America coal market
Minimum 2 years experience in natural gas, power or coal market or similar experience in other parts of the US energy complex.
Industry-expert level of knowledge and experience in global or regional and global coal markets.
Demonstrated ability to manage data flow and process to produce quality documents for internal distribution.
Occasional travel to Houston, Texas or Geneva, Switzerland
IT skills: Advanced Excel skills. SQL/ database query skills
Ability to communicate and collaborate with IT personnel to enable the transformation of prototype supply and demand tools into fully deployable tools for the trading desk
Highly numerate skill set
Must have strong communication skills (fluent spoken English, good presentation skills, effective written communication skills)
Strong business acumen in order to support traders in making risk decisions
Must have good interpersonal skills, ability to work in teams, communicate with senior management traders and other analysts
Bachelor's Degree or higher in a quantitative subject (e.g., finance / economics / mathematics, engineering or physical sciences)
IT Skills: VBA or other programming language or advanced modeling tools such as Matlab
