Job Summary Statement:
Working under the supervision of the Chief Technologist, the Web Developer builds, updates and maintains specific web applications for UCLA Theater, Film and Television's online proprietary platform for the delivery of courses online. Applications are developed and immediately deployed in UCLA online courses to facilitate the activity of students, faculty, teaching assistants, and program administrators. Incumbent works primarily with PHP and MySQL to create, modify, and refine web applications. Interfaces are realized in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript using frameworks such as jQuery. The Web Developer must be a self-starter, able to maintain a workflow that meets constant deadlines with moderate supervision. The candidate must be an excellent team player, and have knowledge of current trends in web development. TFT Online is a rapidly-growing, collaborative work group that taps the creative potential of small staff to create the best, most innovative, and up-to-date strategies for offering instruction online for students at UCLA. Individual staff members are encouraged to bring their unique talents and perspectives to a multitude of activities that includes videography, film editing, animation, web coding and design, and academic research.

Required/Preferred

1. PHP 5 development experience in a Linux/Unix environment

2. MySQL 5 - SQL querying, basic understanding of designing and working with databases

3. JavaScript development experience using frameworks like jQuery

4. Knowledge of HTML, CSS and related web technologies and current web development trends

5. Comfort using FTP, SFTP and related technologies to transfer and manipulate files

Required

6. Strong language and communication skills both written and verbal

7. Ability to creatively and independently solve problems under time pressure

8. Ability to navigate Unix/Linux command line to perform basic tasks like traversing folder structures, creating symbolic links and editing files.

9. Knowledge of shell scripting
