ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for maintaining cleanliness of all work area, answering telephones, relaying messages and uses headset to make phone calls as appropriate.

Access call sheets/posts and prints VS, enters VS data, prints and validates VS

Monitors availability of supplies and orders necessary stock supplies, also for kitchen.

Responds to patient care needs, answers call lights, seeks assistance as appropriate

Provides assistance to physicians and staff to meet quality measures

Prepares/maintains patient records, files lab results, test reports and all document forms

Assembles charts and checks charts for orders that need to be transcribed, checks charts for orders needing follow up i.e.NPO for endoscopy.

Clerical duties as assigned by the Shift lead, Clinical Supervisor, department Director, House Supervisor and Vice President of Patient Care Services within scope of practice to include admitting and discharging paperwork, per policies and procedures and helps with errands i.e. going to Lab and Pharmacy

Maintains daily assignment board

Schedules diagnostic tests and procedures as appropriate

Processes patient results and charges to include discontinued specialty beds, notifies appropriate vendor of discontinued equipment, but not limited to…specialty beds, and wound vac. Monitor appropriate ICU level charges, procedure charges and report errors promptly to director.

Assists in admission, discharge and transfer of patients process

Maintains unit reports, assists in data collection and record keeping for quality assurance, including patient census logs

Has basic knowledge of telemetry and can recognize critical rhythms and reports to RN appropriately

Informs Registered Nurse of variances to initiate examination of patient

Monitor unit census for correctness and make appropriate changes

Responsible for patient care needs to include:
  • ADLS – hygiene, teeth
  • AM/PM care
  • Feeding, total or assist
  • Vital signs: T, P,R, BP, pulse ox (take and record)
  • Walking patients
  • Turning and repositioning patients
  • Performs hourly rounding; documenting in chart as appropriate

Conduct Joint Commission rounds i.e. checking for outdated product, laundry carts, dating of supplies and food

During downtime: assemble admission packs, review MRSA book and put in order for isolation, fill blanket warmer and check refrigerator temperature.

Assists with patient nutritional support: pass/pick up patient trays: pass nourishment

Makes patient beds

Update white boards

Responsible for equipment care and room set up per unit

Organize clean/dirty utility room and storage areas as needed

Responsible for maintaining cleanliness of patient room and room set up to include maintenance of linen/supply cupboards and bags

Responsible to carry out delegated components of the nursing process as appropriate

May be assigned to monitor patients on a continual basis when not performing other duties

Meets/greets patient arriving on the unit and takes them to their room; explains the unit orientation and routine to include whiteboard and, patient safety, call light and bathroom

Orients new staff members on the hospital Mission and Vision

Communicates facility policies to visitors, patients and staff (i.e. visiting hours, no smoking, etc)

Assists with unit staffing as appropriate

Responds to patient, physician, visitor and facility staff request and complaints according to hospital policy and procedure

Follows established computer down-time procedures

Follows established office safety and security policies and procedures

Demonstrates behaviors consistent with organizational mission and goals

Follows all applicable hospital policies and procedures

Participates in facility Quality Improvement/ORP program

Follows policies and procedures for infection control and facility safety in accordance with regulatory guidelines

Follows “Patient Rights Policy” at all times

Demonstrates knowledge of information management as appropriate.

Demonstrates knowledge of disaster preparedness and the role of the unit.

Floats demonstrate availability to float to different areas as the need arises within their designated shift.( I.e. if census drops in one area and increases in another area they will be asked to go and work in the area with the greatest need.)

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED);

Successful completion of telemetry monitor test within 3 months of hire

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

C.N.A. Certification required upon hire

BLS required within 30 days after hire
