POSITION TITLE : Station Products & Innovation Intern – Business Development (Summer 2013)
SUPERVISOR: Director, Station Products & Innovation
TIME COMMITMENT : May 28 – August 16, 2013 (dates can be flexible, depending on candidate availability)

Work with the Stations Products & Innovation team to create a business/marketing plan to spark digital innovation and collaboration among PBS Member Stations.

Help evaluate, identify, and promote trends in the digital media sphere and how it relates to PBS products and services (e.g. mobile, social media, etc…);
Research, write and edit blog articles regarding high priority station products and new media topics; Schedule/recruit station drafted posts for SPI Blog;
Assist with administrative tasks related to the deployment of station-focused products (support efforts of team in creating status updates, webinars, trainings, etc…);
Writing of product documentation, best practices, and FAQs;
Actively search out topics/articles of importance to public media industry to analyze and share with team;
Monitor forums and sites for conversations relative to the Public Media Web development community;
Cultivate an online community of industry professionals to discuss and collaborate on projects, relevant issues and new technologies; and
Participate in social media conversations via Twitter, Facebook and beyond.

Identify, promote and present digital media and/or public media trends and how it relates to the betterment of PBS Member Stations;
Lead marketing, communication and research efforts of digital audit of PBS system;
Excellent writing, editing, and research skills and strong spelling and grammar skills; Specifically writing for blogs, e-newsletters, and product documentation;
Experience with social media platforms (specifically Twitter, Facebook and various blogging tools); knowledge of emerging social media platforms and online communications tools;
Strong skills in typing/word processing, spreadsheets, electronic communications systems, using the Internet, Outlook, and Microsoft Office;
Solid organizational and diplomatic skills;
Excellent communication skills; and
Technical Web knowledge of HTML, CMS, CSS and API concepts preferred but not required.

Digital Media/Communications related with an interest in business

Outgoing, enthusiastic, self-motivated, fast-learner, works well in a dynamic team setting;
Interested in the power of community and building community online;
Excited by the possibilities of new technologies, particularly any related to visual design and video;
Strong attention to detail and customer service skills; and
Able to multi-task, willing to learn and collaborate within the organization.

Knowledge and experience of the issues and opportunities of working in a new media environment;
Building a solid portfolio of a variety of writing, trend and comparative analysis samples;
Knowledge of emerging online technologies, products and concepts;
Experience managing a large network online community;
Experience with meeting and event logistics;
Knowledge and experience with marketing and customer service principles;
Knowledge and experience of working in Public Media; and
Valuable networking connections.
