Perform process oriented technical work to improve the manufacturing of cellulose acetate used to supply material for the production of acetate filament yarn and acetate tow products. Employee will be responsible for providing technical assistance to manufacturing areas and other technical groups. Work consists of application of basic physical and chemical principles to problem formulation and solution. This person will be involved in identification of process improvement opportunities, problem formulation and solution, engineering and statistical analysis, basic equipment design or specification and problem solving on the manufacturing process. A typical assignment will involve defining a problem, developing an understanding of the process and solution requirements, organizing and performing experimental work, analysis of data, drawing of a conclusion, developing and implementing a solution, making presentations on completed and in process work, writing associated technical reports and operating recommendations associated with the project. Employee will be responsible for developing, proposing, and implementing solutions for manufacturing improvements. Depending on size of effort required work would either be done as an individual contributor, or as part of a larger team effort. Leadership of team effort is expected. Work will be done in a multiple project environment, potentially creating challenging problems of time and resource management as well as project interference. Successful implementation will require working with manufacturing personnel (both exempt and non-exempt), production planning personnel, technical service personnel, business and marketing personnel, other development engineers, customer representatives, and vendors.
Required Education and Experience: Bachelors or Masters (BS/MS) degree in chemical engineering from accredited university / college 1+ years of chemical engineering experience (this may include co-op / intern experience) A successful candidate will have strong analytical skills, a strong background in chemistry, and a basic understanding of the mechanics and operation of chemical process machinery. The candidate must be capable of managing the details of a project while keeping in mind the larger project objective. The person in this job will be expected to work with a normal level of guidance and oversight, and be able to take the initiative in removing the normal barriers encountered in project execution. Ability to learn and apply technical fundamentals in a new area of interest is required. An ability to work with individuals from other companies, including suppliers and customers, either alone or in teams, is essential. Also, a willingness to move from a process improvement assignment into a manufacturing assignment is highly desirable. Experience in any of the following areas would also be desirable: control system programming languages, quality management, statistical process control, and design of experiments. This job assignment may include some international travel and a potential for future international assignments. Job progression into other related positions may also require international travel and assignments.
