CMT is seeking an Art Director, Off Air Design to join their team in Nashville, TN.

The Art Director leads the visual process of creating compelling concepts from discovery to detailed design, delivering consistent work across all platforms. They are responsible for setting the visual tone for their projects, including design concepts, typography, photography and content ideation (when applicable). The Art Director will lead and inspire a team of designers. They will cultivate and manage close partnerships with internal and external clients. The Art Director will understand the CMT Brand and the channel's programming direction, and will help translate that into off air designs that drive interest and viewership to the channel. The Art Director is a detailed driven, creative thinker and doer who can develop and guide strategic design campaigns. They also have an understanding of budget constraints and can work successfully within those parameters. In addition, the Art Director will communicate effectively and comfortably to senior leadership, clients and to their subordinate staff.

Responsibilities:
Develop strategic branding efforts and direct all Off-Air Design (print and digital) projects, including consumer and trade campaigns, marketing materials, packaging for consumer products, merchandise, collateral, programming event materials and more.

Oversee the design work of print and digital designers on various projects, and collaborate with the network’s VPs and Directors to maintain a level of excellence that enhances every part of CMT business and brand.

Work closely with On Air Design Art Director in developing and executing design and animation that reflects CMT brand with an attention to consistency and collaboration across platforms.

Supervise the in-house design team on specific projects; give design criticisms and direction to senior and junior levels.

Select and supervise outside design and advertising agencies when needed to execute and produce creative campaigns.

Work with department managers to assign, schedule, budget and direct all assignments.

Seek out creative new hires into the department as well as discovering new external resources.

Contribute to senior level strategy decisions relating to trade and consumer advertising.

Supervise the evolution of CMT brand.

Direct photo shoots and work with outside art buyers and production companies as needed.

Present work to network executives, advertising managers, programmers and producers, and revise work to achieve mutually agreed-upon network communications goals.

Provide strong leadership and serve as an example of CMT Creative philosophies by providing inspiration, motivation, guidance, training and management.

Pursue innovative and experimental design techniques.

Collaborate with technical managers and departments to build artist workstations and upgrade technology when necessary.

Must have working knowledge of media buys, traffic and production specifications.

Basic Qualificaitons:
Minimum of seven years of escalating design and production experience.

BFA in Graphic Design or related field or equivalent work experience.

Must be skilled in both print and digital design disciplines.

Prior brand-specific experience required and able to work comfortably within pre-existing branding and design standards.

Must have a team/collaborative mindset.

Proven success in developing consumer and trade campaigns, marketing materials, packaging for consumer products, merchandise and event materials through direct work for a major television network or and advertising agency that served large corporate clients.

Must be able to write strategic creative briefs that set the goals for a particular creative endeavor.

Strong leadership skills and the ability to focus, inspire, motivate and grow department personnel required.

Must have experience and skill at providing constructive criticism to designers and guiding the design process.

Must possess strong organizational skills and be resourceful.

Must have the ability to develop solutions given the objectives, timelines, and budgetary constraints of each project and the ability to successfully manage multiple projects.

Strong strategic thinking and creative presentation skills are extremely important.

Must have an understanding of the television business including programming, on-air promotion and marketing.

Strong ability to communicate positively and effectively with all levels within the organization as well as external creative suppliers and production facilities.

Must be adept in Quark, Illustrator, and Photoshop.

Demonstrate well-developed skills in typography, with a good understanding of composition and design.

Desired Qualifications:
Minimum of 2 years of prior experience in a creative supervisory role desired.

Interest in country, rock and pop music is a plus.

Prior negotiation skills are highly desired as this position will evaluate and select outside vendors for various projects for work that goes out of house.
