Key Responsibilities of the HR/Accounting Intern
Serve as the primary support for the national office Business Services team; consisting of Human Resources and Accounting and Finance.
Greet and attend to all Communities In Schools visitors, clients and applicants; field and direct all general inquiry calls to the appropriate persons/departments.
Ensure all required applicationmaterials have been submitted by candidates and maintain applicant flow log.
Copy, collate, prepare, and maintain inventory of all needed screening and interview documents, as well as assemble all new hire manuals.
Assist with creating presentation materials for all human resources workshops and events.
Work with human resources team members to create internal position vacancy announcements and input postings into external job site systems for open positions within the Communities In Schools national office.
Research the internet for possible new recruiting job sites and sources to support recruiting efforts of HR department.
Organize and maintain paper and electronic filing system for human resources and finance departments, inputting new files as needed.
Review deposits, expense report and check request documents for accuracy and compliance; enter accounts payable batches and cash receipts into Great Plains database system.
Assist the Finance team members with the preparation of journal entries and other accounting schedules for the month-end close.
Analyze balance sheet and income statement accounts and prepare reconciliations.
Support the Director of Human Resources in the preparation of payroll entry; collate all timesheets.
Assist Office Manager and HR team members with the logistical coordination of all staff-related events (setup, email invitations, etc.).
Maintain front office receptionist area and open and close the front office receptionist area daily.
Essential Competencies of the Successful Candidate
Excellent writing, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Strong organizational and time management skills. Demonstrated ability to pay close attention to detail, work independently, and take initiative.
Flexibility in working in a fast-paced and sometimes demanding environment.
Strong technical skills and proficiency using the Microsoft Office suite products and knowledge of emerging social media outlets required.
Strong interest in the human resources industry preferred.
Possession of customer service-oriented attitude and the ability to support team operations while fielding questions from and working well with diverse staff.
High school diploma required. Current enrollment in a business, human resources management, accounting, or related program of advanced education highly desired.
One to two years prior experience performing data entry or working /interning in an administrative support capacity highly desired. Demonstrated effectiveness meeting deadlines in a role requiring attention to detail in composing, typing and editing materials.
