The Sr. Database Administrator will serve as database administrator on the Technical Operations team. This role provides critical support, architecture and engineering for current and future production databases. Activities include the provisioning, monitoring and maintenance of databases with a high degree of repeatability/reliability, engineering database replication and backup solutions across multiple data centers, performance tuning and optimization of all production database systems and fully documenting solutions.
Role and Responsibilities of the Database Administrator:
Implementation and configuration of MySQL databases
Define and improve best practices for data and database activities
Implement HA solutions and define backup/recovery strategy
Define technical infrastructure environment using MySQL
Define, refine and document production database standards and guidelines
Support problem resolution; consult and advise in application design and tuning; plan, organize and execute product benchmarks for threshold and functionality
Provide data administration support of the development and maintenance of production and non-production database environments for distributed applications
Participate in product evaluation, design review sessions, data requirements meetings and consulting with application developers
Performance monitoring and tuning of production databases
Project management for database upgrades, installations, and schema changes
Qualifications of the Database Administrator:
Expert with MySQL Database Administration in a high volume production environment
Experience setting up MySQL clusters, MySQL replication (Master-Master, Master-Slave, cluster replication), MySQL backup, point in time recovery, and high available configurations in a complex and dynamic production environment
Solid knowledge of physical and logical database design
Solid knowledge in schema design principles with demonstrated aptitude to apply best practices for scalable designs
Experience establishing DBA standards and best practices for MySQL
Ability to communicate with developers and help steer/influence development for optimal performance
Ability to identify and recommend tools and services for managing database infrastructure in all environments
Knowledge of hardware sizing and tuning requirements for database loads based on efficient use of multiple resources
Proficient writing scripts for maintenance and automation purposes
Working knowledge of MySQL Sharding
Education and Experience of the Database Administrator:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electronics Engineering or Information Technology
Minimum of 5 years' experience as a DBA or equivalent.
Demonstrated experience with MySQL database design, implementation, performance tuning, and capacity planning.
Demonstrated experience with Open Source/Linux development and production environments
Able to work independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment with frequently changing priorities
This is a direct hire opportunity with one of our clients in Raleigh, NC. They are looking for a senior level person who knows database systems inside and out, can design/architect databases, and write stored procedures. Target salary range of $100,000 - $115,000, but might go higher for the right candidate. A local candidate is strongly preferred, but client is willing to consider someone able to relocate to move to Raleigh on their own. No sponsorship available.
