Job Description

The Director, Facilities Engineering and Architectural Services at East Carolina University is responsible for managing the Planning, Design, and Construction of Major Capital Projects. The University's capital program averages about $50 million per year. These include capital renewal, new construction, and overall master planning. The Facilities Engineering and Architectural Services department is responsible for developing real property to best support the University's overall mission and objectives of teaching, research, public service, and patient care. Reporting to the Senior Associate Vice Chancellor for Campus Operations, the Director serves as the Capital Projects Coordinator under the governance of the State Building Commission and serves as liaison between the University and Architects, Engineers, Contractors, City of Greenville, UNC General Administration, Office of State Construction, NC Department of Insurance and the public in all planning, construction, renovation, and alterations to University facilities and infrastructure. East Carolina University is the third largest university in the University of North Carolina system with more than 25,000 students and 5,000 faculty and staff. The University is comprised of 5.9 million square feet of facilities located on 1,386 acres in three primary locations. The Doctoral and Research University includes the Main Campus, the Health Sciences Campus, and satellite locations associated with University programs that serve the needs of eastern North Carolina. The Director monitors fiscal operations and procedures associated with the capital construction process. The Director is responsible for managing a staff of 16 that includes Engineers, Architects, and Administrative Support personnel. This senior academic and administrative officer position is exempt from the State Personnel Act (EPA position). Salary will be commensurate with qualifications.

Minimum Qualifications

The Director, Facilities Engineering and Architectural Services must have a thorough understanding of the principles and techniques involved in the programming of buildings and other facilities. Candidates must have considerable knowledge of the engineering, construction, and design of buildings and other facilities, as well as a working knowledge of the types and physical layout requirements of educational buildings. Graduation from a four year college or university with a professional degree in engineering or architecture and five years experience in facility planning, design and construction is required. Experience in large scale institution or agency planning is desirable. Professional licensure, an MBA, or other master's degree would be considered a plus.
