L-3 Communications has 2 openings for a Native Kurdish (Bahdini) Linguist located in Fort Meade, MD or Fort Gordon, GA.
The Native linguist must have 5+ years of professional experience. The Native Kurdish (Bahdini) linguist must be capable of preserving and conveying the flavor, nuances and subtleties of the original text and interpreting and translating passages that are difficult to understand due to the specific nature or complexity of the language used. The Native Kurdish (Bahdini) linguist may be expected to:
- Provide gists, summaries, extracts, full and verbatim transcripts and English translations of a variety of audio and written materials.
- Provide on-line assistance to other operational linguists;
- Perform quality control as required.
Native linguists must possess native or very near native competency in Kurdish (Bahdini) , defined for the purpose of this position as a person who has learned Kurdish (Bahdini) since birth through formal education at the secondary level in a country where Kurdish (Bahdini) is an official or national language and has full mastery of Kurdish (Bahdini) (oral fluency and literacy) and full understanding of his/her cultural heritage. Native linguists must have an excellent command of the grammar, constructions and syntax of Kurdish (Bahdini) . Native speakers shall be abreast of idioms, colloquialisms and slang and have a sophisticated understanding of the cultural, social and political environment in which Kurdish (Bahdini) is used. The Native speaker shall be bilingual to the extent that they can produce well-written and accurate gists, summaries, translations, and reports in American English. The Native linguists' superior Kurdish (Bahdini) capabilities should allow him/her to work largely independently after a short period of target familiarization and training. Basic internet research skills and an understanding of telecommunications and computer network communications fundamentals are also desired, although not required.
Performance at level 3 in listening, reading and translation as defined by the Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR) required. Must possess or be capable of obtaining a TS/SCI clearance with polygraph.
