Job Description
As a System Engineer for the Performance Infrastructure team in the Technical Operations organization, you will join the team responsible for deploying the infrastructure that supports the testing of new code before being released to production. You will also be responsible for administering and supporting the existing environment – both virtual and physical.
Responsibilities:
Builds and maintains availability and performance of multiple critical VMware and Linux environments
Ability to configure and manage virtual switches in the VMware environment
Supports, configures, and automates the deployment of Solaris, Linux and VMware infrastructure through existing Kickstart/Jumpstart infrastructure
Establishes and recommends policies on system maintenance, use, performance, services and automation
Troubleshoots internal and external applications, hardware problems and operating system issues
Required Skills/Experience:
4+ years experience in systems administration
3+ years experience with RedHat Linux
Experience in automated Kickstart/jumpstart deployments
Ability to troubleshoot and diagnosis performance issues in a Linux and Solaris environment
Experience building and configuring systems to support large-scale web applications and databases
Understands secure authentication mechanisms such as Kerberos, NIS+, etc
Good understanding of UNIX OS theory and fundamentals
Strong interpersonal and communications skills
Ability to solve problems quickly and automate processes
A solid understanding of an operating system
Desired Skills/Experience:
3+ years experience with Solaris
3+ years experience with enterprise SAN fabric and arrays
Understanding of the VMware vSphere API
Ability to program in an administrative language (Perl, bash, python, etc.)
SAN/NAS experience with physical and virtualized environments
Experience working with VI Java API
Experience in deploying and managing I/O Virtualization technology
An understanding of networking/distributed computing environment concepts; understands principles of routing, client/server programming, design of consistent network-wide filesystem layouts
