The Bioinformatician I will work on multiple projectsanalyzing biomedical data by applying existing tools, informatics resources,and developing new informatics/software resources,automating/optimizing/customizing repetitive bioinformatics tasks/workflows,implementing research specific novel analysis approaches and computationalmethods, developing/building professional quality reusable software/informaticsresources for medium to large scale bioinformatics projects, and leverage priorexperience and domain knowledge to improve existing methods to expedite andfacilitate the data analysis and knowledge discovery process. Detailed Description
Implementation, application, maintenance, customization ofavailable/known informatics resources and scientific software/data sources in multipleprogramming languages/platforms for research support. Developing front-ends forother analysis tools, visualization/compilation of results, facilitatinggenerally defined routine data processing/migration/organization/managementtasks, and building project specific workflows implementing automated analysissteps.
Investigation, customization, prototyping for newbioinformatics resources and scientific software for biomedical dataprocessing. Requires skills in multiple programming languages, databases,computational methods, scientific computing, large scale data analysis, and heterogeneousbiomedical data from multiple sources. Using software engineering skillstowards creating reusable, modular, tested, version-controlled, sharedrepository oriented, professional quality informatics/software/databaseresources.
Designing, prototyping, evaluating innovative computationalalgorithms, data analysis, and statistical methods for biomedical dataprocessing, interpretation and knowledge mining of data, computationalalgorithms, databases, scientific computing, large-scale data analysis.Suggesting/exploring alternative/multiple data processing approaches.
Following scientific literature/manuscripts, investigatingnew biomedical data processing methods, trends, technologies, and paradigmsrelevant to biomedical informatics, providing feedback towards scientificfindings and contributing towards manuscripts/grants/research proposals andresearch planning. Attending/contributing to/presenting at internal/externalscientific meetings/conferences
Managing multiple bioinformatics collaborations/projects,mentoring junior staff. Strategic planning, organization, management,organization, utilization, optimization of existing and future bioinformaticsresources, skills, and needs. Interacting with PIs, researchers and otherbioinformaticians towards aligning/guiding the bioinformatics activities tomaximize organization's competitive advantage in biomedical research.Interacting with other research divisions, computing infrastructure staff,outside academic/industrial partners. Job Requirements

? Bachelors/Masters Degree in Bioinformatics/Computer
Science/Bioengineering/Computational Biology or related field.

? Experience in academic/industrial applied research
environment in biomedical data analysis

? Experience in software development in multiple programming
languages, such as Perl/C++/C/Python/Java, and derivatives

? Experience in downloading/learning/applying software and
database resources for custom analysis and building workflows

? Experience with Linux/UNIX/Mac OS X based systems and
developing shell scripts/command-line interface

? Formal training/experience in analyzing gene expression,
genotyping, sequencing, CGH, phylogeny, proteomics, or in specific field needed
by the duties, and various biomedical databases

? Experience with scientific computing and data
visualization tools, such as MATLAB, R, etc., and understanding of basic

? Excellent communication skills and strong drive to
interact with researchers carrying out cutting-edge biomedical research

? Experience in software engineering, such as version
control (CVS/SVN), backup, documentation, testing, validation

? Familiarity with large-scale data analysis and utilization
of high-performance computing systems, parallel programming

? Ability to understand and implement computational
algorithms, statistical analysis methods, custom data analysis software
