Position Summary: The Outpatient Behavioral Health Program at KidsTLC supports the organization’s mission by providing innovative and responsive mental health services in order to transform and enhance the quality of life for kids, families and our community. This is non-supervisory position for the KidsTLC Outpatient Behavioral Health Program that will provide an advanced level of mental health treatment in both individual, family and group settings. Primary duties include crisis intervention, risk assessment, diagnostic impression utilizing the DSM-IV, facilitating group counseling, family conferences, and individual sessions with individuals with mental illness to improve their ability to perform tasks in their daily living and working environments as well as maintain their lives in the community. Other responsibilities include intake, screenings, and assessments, assisting consumers through the transition process,, developing treatment plans, discharge planning, etc. Additional duties include assisting in professional supervision and providing training on clinical issues and evidenced based practices.

Treatment is provided based upon sound theoretical principles in addition to evidence-based tx approaches with knowledge of the special issues and needs of the population served.

Approximately 60% of this position’s time is spent in direct therapeutic services & collaborating with treatment providers, approximately 20% is spent in documentation, researching, gathering, compiling, organizing, and analyzing data and approximately 20% is spent utilizing equipment, computers, and databases.

Tasks are performed under the direction of KidsTLC’s Outpatient Behavioral Health Program Clinical Manager. Work performance is reviewed through formal supervision, informal supervision, reports and evaluations.

Critical Functions of Position:
  • Provide an advanced level of mental health treatment in individual, family, and group therapy settings with children, adolescents & families while researching and training best practiced approaches to therapy. This includes providing crisis intervention, risk assessment, & diagnostic impression utilizing the DSM-IV,
  • Develop and coordinate a comprehensive individualized master treatment plan with the client and family/custody provider starting at intake, consulting and collaborating with all treatment team members (psychiatrist, APRN, family members, , external providers, school officials, etc.) developing relevant goals that guide the clients treatment plan, discharge planning, and follow-up care
  • Assume responsibility for managing and auditing clinical records and treatment planning for an assigned portion of cases by maintaining accurate and timely documentation of intake assessment, master treatment plans, treatment plan updates, progress notes, discharge summaries, phone calls, and consultations for individual client cases; maintain recordkeeping for group cases; complete recordkeeping within the time frame specified by KidsTLC policy and procedures and the regulatory standards, e.g., Medicaid, APPS, Private Insurance, DCFS, COA, KDHE, etc.
  • Provide Clinical consultation and individualized interventions as needed. Consult with psychiatrist, APRN, and other involved parties regarding progress, offering strategies to improve behavioral functioning and collaborate on treatment; consult with family/custody case manager on an ongoing basis and provide written updates in coordination of treatment team service
  • Provide on-call support on rotating basis.
  • Assume responsibility for ongoing training of evidenced based practices, upkeep of clinical licensure, etc. Provide training for incoming employees on other clinical topics as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
Position Requirements:

Experience:

Experience with children, adolescents and families experiencing trauma and mental health related issues. Must have working knowledge of evidenced based practices. Experience in providing clinical individual, family and group therapy. Excellent writing and computer skills are preferred. Experience working in an outpatient setting is ideal. Experience in major depression, substance abuse, dual diagnosis and other mental illness is a preferred. Knowledge in current treatment trends and strong assessment and evaluation skills also required.

Education & Licensure:

Requires a Master's Degree in social work, psychology, counseling, marriage and family therapy or other related field. Must be licensed through the Kansas Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board as a clinical social worker (LCSW, LSCSW), marriage and family therapist (or LCMFT);or clinical professional counselor (LCPC). Requires compliance with the Board's ethical practice and continuing education requirements. Additionally, ideal candidates are enrolled as Kansas Medicaid Providers through KMAP (Kansas Medical Assistance Program) and KHS (Kansas Health Solutions)/New Managed Care Organizations.

Task Statements of Critical Functions:

1.) This includes providing crisis intervention, risk assessment, & diagnostic impression utilizing the DSM-IV.

a. Research, implement, and utilize best-practiced therapeutic models, focusing on best-practiced family models whenever possible.

b. Seek out consultation and supervision when appropriate in order to provide advanced treatment to individuals and families.

c. Ensure adequate coverage and communication when taking time off to ensure continuity of care for caseload

2.) Develop and coordinate a comprehensive individualized master treatment plan with the client and family/custody provider starting at intake, consulting and collaborating with all treatment team members (psychiatrist, APRN, family members, , external providers, school officials, etc.) developing relevant goals that guide the clients treatment plan, discharge planning, and follow-up care

· Consults and collaborates with all team members, family members, other treatment providers, etc to gather relevant information at intake to provide a provisional diagnosis, GAF, and assessment summary.

· Monitor treatment planning & updates, scheduling and implementing sessions monthly

· Monitor and manage the documentation and maintenance of complete and accurate written records for client caseload, utilizing the ETO & ETO Money Database as appropriate & outlined in program policy and procedures.

· Establish and maintain positive working relationships with all treatment team members, including family members, community social service agencies, social service workers, case managers, community corrections agencies, mental health professionals, law enforcement, educators, and KidsTLC staff.

3.) a. Complete intakes, assessments, treatment planning & updates, progress notes, discharge summaries, etc in a timely manner as outlined in program policies and procedures

b. Coordinate and collaborate the treatment goals with all members of the team, including other mental health providers the client is involved with, accessing signatures whenever possible.

4.) Provide Clinical consultation and individualized interventions as needed.
