Description

TSYS is the leading third party payments processor globally, and is well positioned for the future as a stable but dynamic leader in the payments technology industry. Our Loyalty & Prepaid business is at the heart of two exciting and consumer-oriented product segments, and we hold market leading positions in both. We are looking for a dynamic and energetic person to help expand and continue our platform automation and tools development initiatives. Perhaps that person is you?

We have an evolving agile culture and move fast. We value people and interactions over process and tools which means this role is up and moving throughout the day –not parked in front of an email in-box. This team oriented role will help plan and drive projects involving multiple departments using strong organization and communication skills. We value results more than sophisticated project documentation; therefore, this role requires attention to detail and a strong desire to develop a working knowledge of software applications and IT infrastructure systems. Your areas of focus will include configuration management, continuous integration, software development and linux systems engineering. We have great team members willing to share, help, and teach, as well as an ever growing knowledge engine, which is invaluable to those who are eager to take ownership of their professional development.

The programmer will work on a small group dedicated to the automation of manual and semi-manual processes for the team's primary customers - being other operations, development, and technical support groups within the same business unit. The programmer will also work on initiatives identified by their team as necessary for the support and maintenance of the underlying platform, as well as implementing new platform features for use by the customers. The programmer will also serve as a mentor to junior personnel, as well as acting as a consultant to personnel on other teams whose work adjoins their own.

Key Skills

You must be driven to learn as a person and develop as a professional. We value collaboration and the ability to quickly respond to change. A successful candidate must be able to connect and work with a wide variety of people, earn their respect, and demonstrate the ability to continuously improve their understanding of the applications, platforms, and systems involved in each project.

Interpersonal Skills

  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Analytical thinker
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Ability to listen to a problem from multiple angles, and get to the real common root problem, beneath the immediate pain at the surface
  • Initiative and self-starter
Technical Skills

  • Experience with distributed version control (git, mercurial, darcs, etc).
  • Ability to design and write functional, clean, easily maintained code in Python and Bash.
  • Ability to write and maintain good documentation for both technical and process topics
  • Prior experience writing build systems, configuration management, automated deployment systems, etc, is required.
  • Working knowledge of Linux Standard Base - signals, pipes, inter process communication, /proc, /sys, etc.
  • Working knowledge of common linux commands - rsync, tar, ssh, bash, etc.
  • Working knowledge of debuggers - pdb especially
