DESCRIPTION

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Marketing Communications Specialist focuses on the creation, implementation and management of marketing communication materials to effectively represent the company's messaging, and its products and solutions to constituents, customers and prospects. Responsible for the content used in marketing communications, including idea generation, concepts, and creative writing of that content. This position also supports the company's public relations efforts.

DUTIES

  • Receives work assignments from the Marketing Manager based on current business needs, experience of the specialist and specialist's particular strengths in marketing, advertising or communications.
  • Meets with appropriate sales or solutions management representatives to discuss communication needs and participates as a member of the marketing team.
  • Where appropriate, serves as project manager for company's marketing materials production, including the development of interactive marketing material. Overviews writing, editing and voice-overs to assure quality production in line with the parameters of the assignment.
  • Reviews collateral in any assigned marketing project, previous marketing materials used in the assignment area, and monitors/gathers competitors' materials.
  • Researches, and recommends use of supporting graphics and artwork, and oversees production from concept through graphic design and printing, as appropriate. Presents recommendations to Marketing Manager.
  • Develops copy for sales collateral, company website, advertising, and whitepapers works with Marketing Manager for review and approval.
  • Coordinates the efforts of the public relations agency and its deliverables and helps monitor PR goals, supporting Marketing Manager to direct PR agency's work. Writes and edits press releases, as appropriate. Coordinates distribution. Monitors budget to ensure appropriate use of PR funds.
  • May be asked to attend and staff corporate trade shows and strategic corporate events.
  • Other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Individual contributor. May help manage external contractor resources, which vary by project.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • BS/BA degree in marketing ,communications, or business, or related field
  • 4+ years of hands-on marketing communications and project management experience
  • Excellent writing, proofing and communication skills with the ability to be organized, detail oriented, and deadline driven
  • Excellent project management skills, including problem-solving, collaboration, communication and negotiation.
  • Strong understanding of common marketing strategies and tactics
  • Basic understanding of graphic design principles
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, and ability to write effectively for different media (e.g. print collateral, white papers, success stories, web content, blogs)
  • Dynamic self-starter with a strong initiative and passion for marketing
  • Ability to integrate and drive projects across an extended organization
  • Capacity to work independently as well as with a cross-departmental team
  • Able to manage multiple projects under strict deadlines, and thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Outstanding computer skills (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Flexible, solutions-based style
  • Creative thinker
  • Must be able to travel occasionally. Varies from quarter to quarter.
DESIRED ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience in educational publishing, software, or K-12 market is highly desirable
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, InDesign, HTML and web publishing
  • Experience with on-demand CRM systems
