DESCRIPTION

The Intake Specialist/Pregnancy Consultant serves as the point of contact between the community and Catholic Charities programs and services. In addition, provides compassionate customer service to clients, stakeholders, and the community, is also responsible for facilitating the linkage to the appropriate programs(s) and resources within Catholic Charities and providing information and referrals for programs and resources in the community as needed. The position is formally supervised by the Social Services Coordinator-Brazos Valley, and operates under moderate supervision with some latitude for the use of independent judgment and initiative.

DUTIES

  • Provides pregnancy tests, mentoring information, resources, and referrals to women requesting assistance.
  • Enters and maintains referral and intake information, including client intake forms and community resources lists, using a data base.
  • Provides consultative services (individual and/or group) to pregnant clients, partners, and family members including information about decision-making, adoption planning, life skills, parenting, nutrition, health education and community resources.
  • Teaches life skills classes in English and Spanish to pregnant women.
  • Receives service inquiries from the clients and community by phone, walk-in, and email.
  • Conducts screening and assessment of needs for individuals and families that contact Catholic Charities.
  • Acts as a resource to clients, outside agencies, and staff.
  • Prepares and submits all required reports and paperwork in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Maintains confidential client files, statistical records, phone logs and case notes.
  • Maintains a work schedule that maximizes availability to staff and customers.
QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of family assistance resources, entitlement programs, and community resources.
  • Ability to operate various word processing software, spreadsheets, and database programs.
  • Ability to evaluate and prioritize work.
  • Ability to formulate assessment of client need(s) and make recommendations for type and level of service.
  • Ability to work effectively with others (staff, clergy, religious and laity).
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service to internal and external constituents.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and utilize effective time management techniques.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Ability to carry out multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to follow instructions furnished in verbal or written format.
  • Skill in sensitive listening to the needs of low-income individuals, especially women in crisis pregnancies.
  • Skill in cultural sensitivity and awareness.
Minimum Qualifications:Education and Trainings:
  • High School Diploma or GED acceptable to Texas Education Agency.
Language:
  • Bilingual English-Spanish
Experience:
  • One year work or volunteer experience in pro life or other social service activities.
Catholic Requirement:
  • Must be a practicing Catholic in good standing.
Licenses/Certifications:
  • Valid Texas driver's license.
  • Must be certified in Diocese of Austin EIM within 60 days of employment, and maintain certification throughout the employment period.
