The applications programmer analyst participates in the design, programming, testing, documentation and implementation of computer applications and systems.
The applications systems analyst/programmer participates in the design, programming, testing, documentation and implementation of more complex computer applications (developed or commercial applications) and systems.
Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Job Function)
Design, code, test, document, implement and maintain application programs and interfaces. Evaluate user requests for new or modified computer programs to determine feasibility, cost, time required and compatibility with current systems and computer capabilities. Consult with users in developing functional and technical specifications; clarifies program objectives.
Provide technical support, problem determination and investigation.
Provide technical input to assist in development of project planning.
Perform system analysis and design functions.
Perform or assist in research and fact-finding to develop or modify application programs; Includes working with vendors to review quality, adaptability and compatibility of their products.
Provide customer support for package software and associated interfaces.
Perform any additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.
Bachelor's degree in information systems, computer science, or related technical field; or equivalent work experience. (Typically six years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor's degree.)
Eighteen months of work and/or intern experience in programming or systems analysis is required for the applications programmer analyst position.
Four years experience in programming or systems analysis required for the applications systems analyst/programmer position.
Proficiency with a variety of application development and configuration management tools. Experience programming in client/server or web development environment using Visual Basic.NET and/or C#.NET.
Experience with relational database technology, specifically SQL Server or Oracle database development skills.
Knowledge of information technology terms, equipment, systems, functions and major vendors.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Effective analytical, problem-solving, project management and decision-making skills.
Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
Available for periodic on-call responsibilities.
