Cargill Corn Milling North America is a manufacturer of value-added corn and sugar based products serving the Food, Feed and Fermentation segments. From facilities in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, Tennessee and Texas, we provide a wide variety of products and services including high fructose corn syrup, corn syrups, dextrose syrups, sucrose, and various fermentation based products that are used in an array of beverage, brewing, confectionery, food and pharmaceutical applications. We also produce a variety of innovative, dry corn ingredients that are used in cereals, snacks, breads, tortillas and animal feed applications. Position Overview

This position is responsible for technical ownership and leadership of plants operations and is responsible for a variety of tasks that include: providing the technical and engineering focus to plant operations, prioritization, development, analysis, interpretation, and utilization of data and information during project inception, and execution, responsible for the day to day management of operations in assigned production or support area to include production, safety, environment, budget management, quality. This position will also be responsible for mentoring, coaching and developing team members – which could include technicians as well as new engineers, coops and interns. Roles and responsibilities will vary based on team needs.

Principal Accountabilities

35% Provide leadership in plant operations. Identify and address methods to improve equipment/system efficiency, recoveries, yields, reliability, energy utilization, and costs. Develop expertise of operations, equipment, and systems.

30% Perform engineering activities to address gaps and execute on projects.

20% Manage people, process and input/product in a plant environment. Involved in the day to day direct supervision of operators and productions activities.

5% Maintain involvement with and understanding of breakthrough technologies. Assist and support R&D section in trials and eventual implementation of concepts.

5% Understand key measures, including costs, chemical usage, energy yields and CMO requirements and ensure they are addressed during project execution.

5% Other duties as assigned.



Bachelor’s of Science in Chemical, Mechanical, Biosystems or related Engineering discipline or a minimum of 5 years production management or engineering experience.

General knowledge of production management with ability to develop understanding of plant processes and operational needs.

High levels of organization, communication and documentation skills required to be successful.

Working knowledge of Food Safety, OSHA, and Environmental regulations.

Demonstrated leadership skills and experience.

Ability to function in a team environment.


3 years or more production management or engineering experience

Demonstrated knowledge of one or more core processes (ie wet mill, fructose refinery, fermentation processes, or acidulants,etc).

Demonstrated experience with commitment system for funds requests.

Previous exposure to project management (capital/expense jobs)

Working knowledge of Cargill PDP, PPM and Build processes.

Demonstrated project controls skills, including scope and budget managements as well as schedule development and execution.

Working knowledge of accounting system with ability to enter requisitions, jobs and work orders.

Demonstrated understanding of several of the key chemical processing unit operations such as evaporators, reactor design, heat exchange, ion exchange, drying etc.

Demonstrated ability to learn technical processes and develop process improvements

Understanding of basic reliability concepts.
