POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Systems Engineer has primary responsibility for infrastructure technologies including Windows and Unix servers, storage, telephony, network, and applications. Administer hardware platforms, operating systems, and infrastructure applications and includes the configuration, installation, deployment, monitoring and level 3 support. Proactively monitor and respond to technical hardware and software problems utilizing a variety of tools and methods. Troubleshoot and identify potential performance and capacity concerns and initiate appropriate corrective actions. Provide coordination between users, technical staff, application owners, and corporate entities to ensure effective technology managment. Mentor less experienced engineers on practices and procedures of server, storage, or network technologies.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

Provide level 3 support for server, storage, network, or voice technolgies

Install, configure, and maintain hardware platforms, operating systems, and infrastructure applications

Analyze current hardware platforms and provide recommendations on the planning for optimal performance and for future direction of infrastructure technology

Proactively monitor hardware platforms for potential performance and capacity concerns

Develop and execute system-level test plans and patching activities

Consult on infrastructure changes as a subject matter expert

Define, plan, and perform system backup and recovery services

Maintain a broad knowledge of of current and future server/storage/network architectures, technologies, and products

Represent infrastructure on medium to large corporate projects

Participate and manage internal technology implementations, upgrades, and retirements

Troubleshoot complex issues related to hareware, software, or environmental components

Set direction for server, storage, and network design and practices

Develop technology standards for area of expertise

Participate in 24x7 oncall rotation

Mentor and coach less experienced engineers on complex projects and processes

ADDITIONAL JOB DUTIES

Plan and test backup and disaster recovery strategies

Implement and adhere to solid server security practices

Lead and suggest process improvements and standards

Work with peers to develop team processes and documentation

Develop rules and procedures

Stay current on industry trends and technology features

Technology vendor management

REQUIRED SKILLS AND BEHAVIORS

Bachelor Degree or equivalent work experience

5+ years experience in corporate server, storage, or unix environments

Demonstrated experience working well with customers of varying levels of technical expertise in high-pressure situations and complex environments.

Experience in working with end users to develop effective solutions to diverse and complex business problems.

General Server Administration of physical and virtual servers which include Windows Server 2003/2008/2008R2, ESXi, and Exchange 2010

Solid knowledge of Active Directory structure and administration, group policy, user accounts and security groups

Solid networking troubleshooting skills – LAN & Wireless

Experience administering Anti-Virus/Anti-Spam products

Windows server experience with Server 2008R2, VMWare, and Exchange administration

Storage/backup experience working with EMC CLARiiON and Tivoli Storage Manager products

Unix AIX 6.x, 7.x administration and support experience

Knowledge of Industry best practices in server, storage, and unix environments

Decision Making - Identify purpose and objectives. Gather and analyze data and develop rationale for decisions. Consider alternatives and assess their impacts and potential problems. Implement decision and evaluate results.

Technical Expertise - Understand technical aspects of one's job and continuously build knowledge, keeping up-to-date on the technical or procedural aspects of the job. Make oneself available to others to help solve technical or procedural problems or issues. Apply technical/procedural knowledge to correctly address a situation in a timely manner.

Coaching and mentoring - Mentor and develop less senior staff. Demonstrate concern for treating people fairly and equally. Develop technical skills of team members and be available to assist with technical questions and issues when they arise.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND BEHAVIORS

Bachelor Degree

MCSE / MCITP Certification preferred

VCP Certification preferred

Basic shell scripting knowledge to assist in automating administrative tasks

Experience working with network and or/voice technologies

Knowledge of the healthcare industry
