This position will be responsible for the development, coordination and implementation of the siting, land use permitting and environmental compliance activities associated with electric system capital construction and maintenance-related projects.
Bachelor of Science degree in environmental science (e.g., biology, chemistry, physics) 4 years of progressive, relevant environmental experience as described below) OR the equivalent combination of education, experience and/or training demonstrating the following skills:
Experience with laws and regulations pertaining to siting, land use, and environmental policy, clean water, endangered species, land management, weeds, migratory birds, wildlife protection, historic and cultural protection.
- understanding and applying environmental theories, standards, concepts, resources and techniques;
- working on complex projects independently and/or working with teams on larger projects;
- independently performs environmental and analytical studies while demonstrating sound problem solving skills.
- working closely with other groups within and/or outside the company;
- keeping abreast of new developments in the environmental field including regulations, requirements, equipment, operating procedures, etc,.
Experience demonstrating effective written and oral communication skills.
Experience demonstrating skill using PC-based word processing, spreadsheet and e-mail software to perform work functions.
Ability and willingness to perform a second role in accordance with PHI's Emergency Preparedness Guidelines for all employees.
Ability and willingness to work extended hours (including holidays and weekends) with little or no notice, on-call and during storms and system emergencies.
Ability and willingness to adhere to safety regulations and policies and to wear and use safety equipment as required by Federal, State, Local and PHI regulations (for example, steel toed shoes, rubber gloves and sleeves, hard hat, fire retardant clothing).
Ability and willingness to work in a variety of work environments which may include outdoors in all weather conditions, on or around energized electrical equipment, in confined spaces, climbing, underground and in noisy and dirty environments with proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Ability and willingness to travel to various company locations and work sites.
Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Must successfully pass a Criminal History Records Check.
Must successfully pass a medical screening to include a drug test.
This position is a NERC Regulated position. As such, a background check will be conducted on the incumbent every seven years. Additionally, the incumbent will be required to complete annual NERC compliance training.
Experience demonstrating skill using PC-based analytical software and/or presentation software.
Demonstrates knowledge of applicable corporate computer systems, such as SAP, GIS, and desktop software products.
Experience demonstrating skill using Project Management software (for example; MS Project or Primavera).
Experience demonstrating skill performing relevant utility environmental functions.
Experience demonstrating skill mentoring others, for example, by providing technical training or on-the-job project assistance.
Experience demonstrating skill coordinating work across different areas, departments and/or work groups, within and/or outside of the organization.
Experience in siting, permitting and environmental compliance, preferably related to transmission, substation, or distribution electrical facilities or linear corridor projects.
