The UNC Division of Nephrology and Hypertension is seeking a physician with clinical responsibilities in two overlapping clinical fields—dialysis and interventional nephrology, and a supervisory role with trainees, including fellows and medical residents. The faculty member will be expected to see patients in outpatient dialysis clinics that provide hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis for approximately 4-5 months. In addition, he/she would be expected to provide inpatient nephrology consultation, including hemodialysis and continuous dialysis procedures. The candidate would also participate in the care of patients with advanced chronic kidney disease nearing dialysis. The candidate will also have interventional nephrology duties including but not limited to angioplasty of and stent and coil placement in vessels associated with dialysis access, dialysis access thrombectomy and tunneled dialysis catheter placement. The faculty member will have duties that may include attending on the Nephrology inpatient service, the consultation service that includes the opportunity to mentor and teach fellows, residents, and possibly students. In addition, he/she will have involvement with precepting residents or fellows in clinic 2-3 times per year. Also, the faculty member will participate in the regular teaching responsibilities shared by all members of the Division including divisional conferences, departmental conferences, continuing medical education programs, and AHEC talks.

M.D. degree

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates should have M.D. degree and must be BC/BE in Nephrology. He/she should also have Interventional Nephrology certification or eligibility for certification by the American Society of Diagnostic and Interventional Nephrology. In exceptional cases, we may be willing to train an individual in interventional nephrology if he/she currently lacks the skills. Prior experience as a faculty member at a medical school is preferred. Applicants must have U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status. Prior experience in both outpatient and inpatient dialysis is essential as the candidate will spend the majority of his/her time in the care of hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis patients, and in providing inpatient consultation to physicians from other disciplines.
