Education / Training: Education / Training:
Bachelor’s degree preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology.

Prefer CPCS certification by NAMSS or to be obtained within 2 years of hire.

3-5 years of related experience credentialing/privileging. Significant proficiency with Microsoft Products, including Word and Excel. Proficiency in use of physician credentialing data systems and sufficient PC skills necessary to maintain credentialing and meeting support activities. Basic reporting abilities relative to physician activity and statistics.

Essential Technical / Motor Skills:
Precise eye hand coordination and finger dexterity.

Essential Mental Abilities:
Knowledgeable and competent to perform essential functions.

Essential Sensory Requirements:
Ability to visually and audibly perform essential functions.

Essential Physical Requirements:
Sufficient mobility and strength to move about the facility.

Exposure to Hazards:

Essential Functions: The Credentialing Specialist is responsible for providing support to the medical staff and allied health staff with credentialing and privileging activities for initial and reappointment, assuring compliance to regulatory and accreditation standards, as well as the South Lake Hospital Bylaws, Rules & Regulations.

Provides exceptional customer service to physicians and physician office staff members as well as internal customers, such as members of other departments. Educates physicians and physician office staff on the credentialing process and maintains ongoing contact with these individuals throughout the process.

Obtains timely and accurate primary source verification for all credentialing functions. Maintains current medical staff database for all physician and allied health credentialing and privileging activities.

Identifies trends and assists in the development of action plans for purpose of performance improvement. Evaluates processes in departmental Policies & Procedures and makes recommendations for changes to Medical Staff Supervisor. Develop and distribute reports as necessary utilizing physician database. Timely completion of all assigned duties.

Interacts with and provides support to Chief of Staff, department chairman and leadership. Interacts on a daily basis with medical staff leadership, department chairs, medical staff members, administration, and executive staff. Interacts with department chairman and leadership chairman in presentation of initial credentialing and reappointment files in preparation for the Credentials Committee. Organizes meetings including distributing materials, recording and advancing minutes to the appropriate leadership committee.

Assists the Medical Staff Coordinator in providing all credentialing, privileging and meeting support activities for the South Lake Hospital Medical Staff and its leadership. Ongoing review of processes to improve performance and meet customer needs. Maintains confidentiality.

Works independently on special projects. Performs routine problem solving. Works with sensitive and confidential organization information. Interacts professionally with all levels of management and Medical Staff. Significant customer contact and customer service.

Other Related Functions: Works as a team member in facilitating efficient and effective service to administrative leadership and Medical Staff. Maintains established departmental policies and procedures. Prioritizes work load to manage multiple priorities. Assumes responsibility for professional growth and development by enhancing professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, and workshops. Performs all other duties as assigned.
