Advertised Summary Job Description
Provides highly skilled support for field work and project coordination in public health studies. Preparation and maintenance of air monitoring equipment. Performs or coordinates repairs as needed. Coordinate and participate in field work in urban home settings in developing countries or NYC: Works closely with other project team members and coordinates field visits to homes, including contacting study subjects by phone to set up appointments. Describes project to study participants and obtains consent for work. Fit air monitor vests on adults and children. Recovers instruments and evaluates their condition. Organize and carry out quality assurance protocols for cleaning data. Provide logistical support for field study. Includes coordination of sample shipments, purchasing of materials, equipment inventory control and various organizational tasks. Carry out descriptive and statistical data analysis. Prepare activity reports and document procedures, including for publications and annual reports. Direct supervision provided by Lamont Research Professor. Independent judgment and initiative required. Applies prescribed procedures. Collaborates and provides training for other team members including technicians, students, post-docs and research scientists. Provides descriptions on equipment functions and sampling protocols to research project participants. Non-routine physical activity limited to field assignments. Keeps track of petty cash account that includes incentive payments and compliance bonuses for study subjects. May be called upon to provide cost estimates on purchases up to 5K. Telecommuting is NOT available. This position is located on the Lamont Campus in Rockland County, NY.
Minimum Qualifications for Grade Applicant MUST meet these minimum qualifications to be considered an applicant
B.A., preferably in one of the physical or biological sciences or equivalent. We seek candidates with good organizational skills, basic familiarity with protocols for air sampling and collection of biological samples, experience with times series and geo-spatial data analysis. Strong interpersonal and communication skills with public including good command of written and spoken English. Working knowledge of PC's using Microsoft Windows operating systems, Excel, Access, ArcGis are also important. Must be eligible to hold US Passport. Must be able to walk up and down of flights of stairs while carrying up to 30 pounds.
