The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC is seeking an IT Chief Architect.
Reporting directly to the Chief Information Officer (CIO), the Chief IT Architect oversees the IT enterprise architecture and the development of enterprise IT standards. The Chief Architect leads the identification and analysis of enterprise business drivers to develop enterprise architecture requirements, enterprise blueprints for architecture implementation, and has overall responsibility for managing IT infrastructure planning. Participates in strategic decisions regarding IT for the enterprise, and makes decisions based on the highest degree of technical complexity and through understanding the far-reaching implications across the Lab.
Lead the creation and evolution of IT enterprise architecture, including coordination of an appropriately balanced pursuit of enterprise business, information, technical and solution architectures. Oversee enterprise architecture implementation and ongoing refinement activities. Track the evolution of architecture drivers such as Mission, Vision, Goals, and Objectives for the organization as a whole as well as Departments/Groups within the Lab. Understand the business processes of the user organizations and their evolution in order to better design future IT capabilities. Act as a sounding board or consultant to the CIO and senior IT leaders in the development of IT solutions for business needs. Analyze technology industry and market trends and determines potential impact upon the enterprise. Perform other duties as assigned.
Required: Bachelors degree or equivalent years of professional IT work related experience. Ten years experience working in IT enterprise architecture design and deployment, systems lifecycle management and infrastructure planning and operations. At least 5 years of leadership experience in managing multiple, large, cross-functional teams or projects, and influencing senior level management and key stakeholders. Excellent problem solving, verbal and written communication, customer interface, and organization skills. Able to work effectively with all levels of management and customers across department boundaries. Demonstrated ability to multi-task, and motivated to develop innovative solutions to tackle both technical and managerial challenges.
Desired: Masters degree in computer science or related field. Experience in a research lab environment.
Top Secret Clearance is required. Applicants selected will be subject to a Government security investigation and must meet the eligibility requirements for an SSBI and access to classified information. Preference for current SSBI. Eligibility requirements include US citizenship.
