System Administrator for Windows or Redhat on VMware

Seagate is seeking a System Administrator for Windows or Redhat on VMware to be responsible for maintaining the operational status of systems and working closely with other members of the information technology department within the company. The duties of this position ranges across the spectrum of supporting individual VMware systems to implementing complex solutions around business needs as well as servicing of Windows and/or RHEL-based platforms and services. In this regard, duties such as scripting and light programming are required. This position reports to the Sr. Manager of IT Operations, and will be located in Oklahoma City, OK.

This System Administrator for Windows or Redhat on VMware will have the responsibilities of:

Supporting the operation and maintenance of a VMware infrastructure for US Business Data Center including execution of performance tuning procedures and fulfillment of capacity plans for clusters of ESX servers

Installation of new software and performing system upgrades including evaluation and installation of MS or RHEL patches as assigned.

Troubleshooting issues with Windows and/or RHEL servers both in virtual and physical environments.

Following and improving-upon established technical plans of internal customers and project managers on new IT systems per agreed upon deadlines.

Applying a fundamental understanding of IT configuration management principles to complex technical problems.

Building and running scripts to manage/automate tasks related to one or more of the following: VMWare and Windows and/or RHEL platforms.

Organization, set-up and tear-down of server systems and related equipment as specified.

Resolving escalation issues from Helpdesk including email, phone and other incident tickets.

Actively monitoring IT maintained systems.

Providing 24/7 technical support coverage as needed

Participating-in and performing tasks related to after-hours work for scheduled maintenance of Windows and other IT infrastructure systems projects.

Contributing analysis and technical problem solving skills to team projects.

Conducting briefings and actively participating in technical cross-functional meetings on assigned responsibilities

Qualifications

Requirements:
Bachelors Degree in IT or related field of study and/or 3+ years of relevant IT experience

Knowledge about the basics requirements/standards for maintaining Windows and/or RHEL core services (preferably in a VMware environment) and an ability to follow such processes as provided.

Ability to contribute to the achievement of assigned project tasks

Exposure to practical scripting of automated tasks and processes with an ability and interest in developing greater expertise in this area.

Passion for outstanding customer service and demonstrable skills in time management

Preferred Qualifications:
Six months or more of direct experience in scripting within a VSphere platform or directly related setting (ideally in VSphere5.x architecture)

Direct experience and/or certification in Red Hat Enterprise Linux or MS Windows administration

Direct experience and/or certification in certification in VMware

Familiarity with Spacewalk and/or Red Hat Satellite for patch management.

Familiarity with Puppet for configuration management
