Job Summary: The Technical Copyeditor provides copy editing and writing support for proposals, reports, and marketing documents for an established accounting and auditing firm with primarily federal-government clients. This position requires a detail-oriented, well-organized individual who can work comfortably and collaboratively in a support role and represent the Communications Department professionally and positively. The Technical Copyeditor will have primary responsibility for both strategic and daily functional tasks of document production and will work closely with the firm’s partners under the direction of the Communications Manager. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Specific duties include all levels of copy editing and writing required to produce high-quality documents including: editing and rewriting for clarity, language usage, and internal style and format consistency; formatting and creating graphics, figures, and tables; and ensuring document compliance with internal, client, and/or GPO style manuals. This often requires reorganizing, rewriting, and polishing poorly-structured or confusing sentences and paragraphs written by multiple authors, as well as developing and revising tables and graphics to create a clear, concise document written in “one voice.' Documents include proposals (technical scope of work, resumes, past-performance descriptions); accounting, audit, and consulting reports for governmental clients; presentations; marketing brochures; press releases through conventional and social media; internal and external communications. The Technical Copyeditor will work under the direction of the Communications Manager and will work directly with partners/originators to produce high-quality proposals, reports, and marketing documents and meet all deadlines.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Technical copy editing and writing experience in an accounting or other technical environment with federal government clients. Experience researching online resources for federal government bid opportunities and with the governmental RFP and proposal process. Ability to efficiently and effectively perform all tasks required to produce documents using MS Office Suite. Familiarity with Adobe Design Suite considered a plus. Knowledge of creating and manipulating templates and tables, creating and embedding graphics, and designing promotional materials considered a plus. Ability to multi-task and handle competing priorities and meet deadlines. Ability to work with many authors and their preferences. Ability to seek out and develop new projects and support services within the firm. Ability to work independently and as a member of a team in a fast-paced environment. Familiar with GPO Style Manual and other technical resources. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including comprehensive knowledge of grammar, syntax, and language rules. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain confidentiality. Other duties as assigned. Working Conditions: Work at company office in Old Town Alexandria and may telecommute on a limited basis. Travel - none. Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, or other relevant area. Must have 5+ years hands-on technical editing or technical writing experience in a public accounting, technical industry, or federal contractor environment with at least 1 year of experience working in a proposal-driven environment.
