The Valdosta Manufacturing site has a need for a General Operator. This Position operates the processes of a manufacturing unit to meet safety, environmental, production, yield, and quality requirements. As an individual moves through levels of responsibility, they are expected to have taken on additional responsibilities while continuing to fulfill the role outlined for process technicians and have exceeded the successful performance criteria. At all levels, the process technicians will take functional and technical guidance from the VMS OTL. Position Duties: Take and record process data (pressure, temperature, flow rates, etc.) in order to monitor and evaluate process status. Read, interpret, and follow oral and written instructions such as operations' guidelines, plant orders, standard operating conditions, and operating procedures in order to properly operate the unit. Follow all prescribed safety and environmental practices in order to prevent injuries, prevent incidents, and ensure compliance with all environmental regulations. Select and wear proper personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, steel toed shoes, fall protection equipment, acid suit, respiratory equipment, etc.) in order to prevent personal injury. Operate process equipment using varied process controls such as manual, pneumatic, PLC and DCS systems in order to keep the process operating under normal conditions. Connect process and utility hoses with or without tools as appropriate while wearing the necessary personal protective equipment in order to maintain the correct flow of the process. Handle, change out and pack both hazardous and non-hazardous materials wearing personal protective equipment in order to manage inventories without exposure or release to the environment. Perform chemical equipment breaks and vessel entries following site safety procedures and wearing personal protective equipment in order to do maintenance and safety inspections on equipment. Perform minor maintenance work using hand tools in order to maintain equipment. Operate mobile equipment such as forklift. Operate process equipment such as reactors, columns, compressors, pumps, etc. in order to make quality product and meet business needs. Collect and analyze process samples using lab methods and equipment for process control in order to verify product quality. Perform routine inspections on safety equipment, ladders, and process equipment in order to ensure that they are maintained in good working order. Keep work area clean and orderly in order to prevent safety hazards. Use computer based communications, data-tracking and reporting systems such as, e-mail, Hazcom, SAP, etc. in order to monitor process data, access information and initiate work systems. Actively participates in 6 Sigma and Lean Manufacturing Quality systems in order to improve the manufacturing process. Serves as one of the Star-Point roles, i.e., Personnel, Operations, Safety, Environmental, Training, etc. in order to provide support to the business. Serve as operations' representative for Process Hazards Analysis in order to provide operations point of view into the process. MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: High School Diploma or GED Equivalence with 2 or more years related experience in a Industrial/Manufacturing environment. Demonstrated ability to perform position duties, which involve climbing and descending stairs, ladders, entering process equipment while wearing the appropriate personal protection. Demonstrated ability to work in elevated structures such as process units, piperacks, vessels/tanks wearing the appropriate personal protection including fall protection. Demonstrated skills to diagnose, troubleshoot, prepare equipment and perform minor maintenance work in order to resolve process and mechanical problems within a chemical manufacturing environment. Demonstrated knowledge of computer applications and hardware such as e-mail, Hazcom, Nexus, DCS, PLCetc. Demonstrated ability to work in a team-based environment to accomplish work aligned with business goals. Demonstrated ability to communicate with team and site personnel. Demonstrated ability to work shift-work and be on-call for off-hours work as required to meet business needs. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Associate of Science Degree in Chemical Operations with a minimum of 3 years related experience in a Chemical Process environment OR two or more years of college education with a minimum of 3 years related experience in a Chemical Process environment.
