Job Description: We are looking for writers to create quizzes for fiction and nonfiction books used by K-12 students. While the majority of your weekly assignments will be completed at home, the position requires reporting physically to the Wisconsin Rapids or Madison based office once weekly. Successful candidates will have superior writing skills, be proficient in grammar, and able to meet deadlines. This is a part-time position responsible for creating and evaluating content for existing and new products as needed.
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Read books and create content for RLI products.
Assist editors with evaluating content for RLI products.
Perform related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university and at least two years experience or equivalent training related to content development or a writing discipline.
Superior verbal and written communication skills
A strong knowledge of grammar, mechanics, usage and spelling
The ability and the desire to read and understand a wide range of fiction and non-fiction literature including but not limited to the K-12 children’s literature market.
Ability to create text with readability levels appropriate for grades K-3, 4-8, and/or 9-12.
Computer proficiency in word processing and spreadsheet programs and the capacity to learn new software programs as needed.
Ability to work independently under the supervision of an editor.
Ability to adapt to changes and new procedures.
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines as assigned.
Understand and apply state standards in writing assessments.
Ability to read, analyze and interpret K-12 fiction and nonfiction and have an understanding of genre. Ability to identify specific reading skills. Ability to communicate clearly and succinctly.
