The Sr Program Manager is part of our Unitary Products Group (UPG) within Johnson Controls. In this division we manufacture and assemble heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment for the residential and light commercial markets. We have 2 plants with approximately 1,000 employees in each in our UPG division, one in Norman, Oklahoma and the other in Wichita, Kansas. The Sr Program Manager can be located out of either location.
Leads and Manages Projects
a. Provides on-going project leadership and coaching to new product development teams to ensure PDP (Product Development Process) disciplines are followed, proper resources across multiple functions are allocated, and quality deliverables are achieved throughout the product development process.
b. Initially helps cross-functional teams identify project objectives and assures progress towards meeting objectives throughout the PDP process.
c. Lead project teams & facilitate team meetings & agenda; ensures common understanding of deliverables and open issues for each project phase;
d. Owns the PDP calendar and gate review process and maintains summary program management status information.
e. Develops Unitary Products standard process consistent with BE Global standards, including standard templates for project report outs.
f. Provides training related to PDP process & expectations as applied in UPG.
g. Ensures ongoing PDP process improvement and application of lessons learned.
h. Participate in BE and JCI activities to share PDP best practices
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a technical field; Master's degree, an MBA, and/or PMP certification is highly desirable;
Three years of experience in Engineering & Product Development, Project Management, General Management, Quality, and/or Operations is desired, prefer 5 plus years.
- Aptitude and desire to be involved in cross-functional activities, including engineering, marketing, sales, finance, manufacturing, and quality.
- Comfortable in an influencing vs. direct management role
- Strong people management & communication skills; willing to confront issues in an open, but tactful way
- Strong organization and problem solving skills
- Knowledge of product development process (PDP) & associated gate review disciplines
- Knowledge of HVAC systems & technology
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite Applications (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint) as well as internet software and e-mail is required
