Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the University of Hawaii Kauai Community College (Kauai CC), for the Rural Hawaii 1 (RH1) Project, located in Lihue, Kauai, Hawaii. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.

MINIMUM MONTHLY SALARY: $2,705/Mon.

DUTIES: Provides individual and group career and transfer counseling, administers and interprets career assessment inventories, assists students with solidifying and/or determining a career/transfer path, works collaboratively with academic divisions, departments, faculty members, student services, Career Link and other relevant constituencies of the institution to enhance students’ career/transfer development, designs and delivers educational sessions on career development, STAR and/or transferring, guides/refers students through the process of graduation and/or transfer to another college/university. Creates and maintains a database of all clients seeking service and type of service rendered, tracks all clients who have either solidified or declared a career choice or major and earned a credential or transferred to another college or university, manages and evaluates career/transfer counseling services and programs, prepares status reports and recommends and implements improvements to services. Implements and maintains systems and resources used to provide career and transfer counseling services, collects data as it relates to transfer requirements, program objectives, recruitment, retention and persistence initiatives, tracks and records data required to meet grant/project outcomes.

PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university in Counseling and Guidance, Counseling Psychology, College Student Personnel Services, Human Resources (to include both College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources (CTAHR) and Personnel), Communications, or related field. EXPERIENCE: At least three (3) years of progressively responsible and professional experience in an educational or social services setting. Must have some experience providing academic counseling and/or other direct client services including but not limited to administering/interpreting personality/career assessment inventories, career planning and transfer. ABIL/KNOW/SKILLS: Basic knowledge of career guidance/counseling and employability development practices and resources. Basic knowledge of practices and resources available to assist students to overcome barriers to employment and other post-secondary education transitional options. Basic knowledge of post-secondary education programs, the practices and procedures for transferring into such programs. Must have excellent interpersonal skills and work well with others. Must have a thorough understanding of the world of work and up-to-date information about trends that affect the employment outlook. Able to examine information and arrive at solutions or recommendations and/or take appropriate action. Ability to establish and maintain accurate records and files, including computerized data files. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Must possess strong computer software skills with commonly used professional software programs. Post Offer/Employment Condition: Must be able to pass a post offer criminal background check.

SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Career Counseling, Educational Counseling, Counseling, Interpersonal Communication, Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, Social Science or related Human Services/Social Services field. Knowledge of or familiarity with Banner and STAR programs. Knowledge of or familiarity with UH policies and procedures.
