As a Planer Grader at Columbia Falls Lumber, you will have the opportunity to:
Learn WWPA grader regulations and propriety grades of lumber to maximize recovery and highest grade yield (value) based on board specifications.
Setup trimmer and computer for destinations, grades, lengths, stamps, and species.
Coordinate with planer setup, feeder and stacker operator to maximize production and quality control.
Perform changeovers in a timely and efficient manner.
Take size checks, moisture readings, move saws, and keep production flowing smoothly and efficiently. The planer grader responsibilities include performing pre-shift inspection, reading and comprehending runsheets/measurements; maintaining a constant flow of lumber through lug loader and into the trimmer; communicating with the planer setup, feeder and stacker operator on setup and destination issues. Performance maintenance on machinery, including but not limited to timing and adjusting lug chains; making length changes; replacing saws and belts; straightening out pile up on landing table; helping stacker operator with tipplegate plugs ups; unplugging trimmer and waste system; and moving limit switches to proper lengths.

When necessary, the planer grader will assist with other production duties/positions in the sawmill and/or planer.

Additional Requirements:
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent is preferred.
Experience: Prefer a minimum of two (2) years of experience grading in a board mill. WWPA certification is required.
Additional Requirements: The job of Planer Grader is a Medium Duty job. Medium Duty involves exertion of to 25-50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10-20 pounds frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds continuously to move objects.
A sense of urgency in terms of maximizing production, and minimizing downtime is necessary in this type of manufacturing environment.
Tasks performed involve work with equipment and material that require familiarity with formal safety procedures and the following of these procedures in order to maintain the safety of the work environment.
Candidates must have the ability to interpret and apply verbal and/or written instructions, and have good hand eye coordination.
Willingness to work varying shifts, overtime and weekends/holidays.
