The National Children’s Study (NCS) is a national longitudinal study, a long-term research project that follows children and their families over time-that will look at the influence of biological, environmental, genetic, and social factors on the health and development of our nation’s children. The goal of the Study is to improve the health and well-being of children by contributing to the understanding of the impact various factors have on health and disease.

Field Interviewers talk to people from every conceivable walk of life, in person at their homes and sometimes by telephone to obtain information on issues that will affect social policy

Field Interviewers administer carefully developed, field-tested questionnaires to respondents, either printed or on laptop computers

Requirements

Experienced (NCS experienced a plus)

Able to make long-term commitment to project

Ability to understand complex protocol with multiple instruments

Experience with/ability to learn to do physical measurements using specialized equipment

Very comfortable with computers/ipads

Able to work around/collect urine, saliva, and blood (blood spot only)

Experience with or ability to work with small children

High school diploma or equivalent (Bachelor's degree or college coursework in social science or related field preferred)

Previous data collection or field interviewing experience highly preferred

Familiarity and comfort using computers and accessing the internet is strongly preferred

Able to collaborate with phlebotomists as a team for collection

In addition to meeting specific job requirements, employees hired for this position must present evidence of their identity and authorization to work in the United States (I9 documentation) and must undergo a background check.

Interviewers must be comfortable working in a variety of settings including healthcare provider offices and/or hospitals

Interviewers will also be responsible for reconciling respondent fees. A separate bank account may be required for these monies.

Interviewers should have gaining cooperation skills and the ability to converse with mothers of young children.

Interviewers should have a schedule that is flexible and able to accommodate appointments at different times of the day and days of the week.

Interviewers must be able to administer the interview in a non-judgmental manner.

Be organized, an active listener and detail-oriented.

Have reliable transportation with required insurance coverage as well as a good driving history

Sign a release allowing a background check and Motor Record Vehicle check.
