Occ Summary

  • Requires 2 years of directly related experience working for an Ophthalmologist. OR Work requires certification as a certified Ophthalmic Assistant by the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO).
Perform a variety of highly skilled duties associated with the
operation of specialized equipment to
assist physicians in the examination and treatment of diseases of the eye. Perform multiple ophthalmic imaging procedures including; digital andfilm fluorescein/ICG angiography (including performing IV injections and related patient care), color fundus photography, optical coherence tomography, retinal
thickness analysis, anterior segment slit-lamp biomicroscopy,
goniography, external and O.R. photography, public relations and teaching-based general photography and media support for the Dept. of Ophthalmology.

Work Performed

Using the abovementioned techniques and others not listed, the
ophthalmic photographer will perform a variety of imaging tests in order to aid the physicians in documenting, tracking, and treating all forms of eye disease. The majority of duties involve intimate patient care, the rest of the work involves the
processing of images via computer- based anipulation/handling as well sproducing the bulk of eaching- related mediain support of the faculty, residents and fellows

Intimate patient care includes the imaging tests using the cameras and achines appropriate and also includes
the assessment and monitoring of patients well-being before,
during, and immediately after IV injections
related to fluorescein and ICG angiography. Photographers
are trained in all aspects of
venipuncture and associated side effects and risks, and also trained to monitor vitals sings and how to
cognize and address rare but not-uncommon complications. Asissts
with computer/networking
back-up and maintenance/troubleshooting.. Supply ordering, inventory,
equipment maintenance.
Expected to perform at higher than average quality levels, as judged by
supervisor.

Education Work requires an education background generally equivalent to a high school education.
