A post-doctoral research associate position is available at the Cancer Research Institute of M. D. Anderson Cancer Center Orlando.
M. D. Anderson – Orlando is the first and largest affiliate of the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center located in Houston, Texas. The Cancer Research Institute was established to build a solid, cutting edge research infrastructure, with an assembly of an interdisciplinary team of well-funded, active cancer researchers, which will lead to significant preclinical and clinical data.
The Cancer Research Institute is housed on the site of Orlando’s Medical City, in a newly built state-of-the-art facility, with 30,000 sq ft of laboratory/office space and a 25,000 sq ft animal facility shared with the Burnett School of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Central Florida. The Medical City is also home to the east coast headquarters of the Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute, and is the future home of the new Orlando VA medical complex and a new Nemours Children’s Hospital.
The post-doc will work with a collaborative team to help investigate specific protein markers of cancer. The candidate should have demonstrated competence in basic cell culture and molecular biology methods such as western blots, DNA / RNA preparation, PCR , and cloning. Experience in flow cytometry and in vitro biology assays (proliferation, adhesion, migration, invasion, apoptosis, etc.) is highly desired. Facility with handling mice for the purposes of intravenous and orthotopic injections, as well as for necropsy of tumor-bearing mice, is preferred.

The ideal candidate will possess a Ph.D. in a biology-related discipline. A strong background in molecular and cellular biology is required. In addition to lab duties, the post-doc will be expected to contribute to experimental design, data compilation and presentation, grant writing, and must be able to work without supervision. Effective written and oral communication skills and the ability to work well with others will also be essential. Salary will be commensurate with academic credentials and experience.
