Founded at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) in 1976 at the inception of the media arts movement, the Video Data Bank (VDB) is a leading not-for-profit resource in the United States for video by and about contemporary artists. The VDB Collection includes the work of more than 550 artists and 5,500 video art titles, 3,000+ in active distribution.
THE ART INSTITUTE OF CHICAGO is seeking a Development and Marketing Manager to ensure that VDB is known to a wide range of constituents as the primary source for video art, and that its activities and projects are promoted with a view to increasing sales, grants and donations. Works to expand client base, markets and sales. Strategizes marketing campaigns and the promotion of the VDB Collection. Ensures the production of promotional materials, including writing and editing texts as necessary. Manages the production of special projects, including, artist box sets, essays, artist compilations, exhibitions, and collaborations. Works to oversee the acquisition of new video art titles into distribution, to include issuing artist contracts, database entry, and writing descriptions and promotional texts. Liaises with VDB artists to promote their work and develop the Collection. Coordinates VDB presentations as necessary.
Mandatory Job Qualifications
A SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE MUST HAVE a Bachelor's degree in Arts Administration, Marketing or Business, preferred or minimum two years equivalent experience. Management of projects in the media arts or related field. Communications, promotion and/or marketing experience, to include social media. Excellent planning, organizational and administrative skills with exceptional attention to detail and an aptitude for problem solving. Excellent verbal and written communications skills. Excellent people and presentation skills and the ability to communicate persuasively with a broad range of constituents. Ability to multitask and work under pressure. Well-organized with the ability to manage own time. Word, Excel, and database aptitude.
